Word up. I heart Harry Potter.
They feel it should be banned based on its content of witchcraft, etc.
Does that mean we get rid of the Chronicles of Narnia (written by a Christian), any book on the Salem witch trials, Lord of the Rings (also written by a Christian....)
Stupid.

Pierre Bruno of "Liberation" magazine says, Harry Potter is a sexist neo-conservative autocrat. Additional controversy seems to be popping up once again in reference to the "Harry Potter" books and the Vatican. This time, chief exorcist, Rev. Gabriele Amorth states that fictional character Harry Potter is the "king of darkness, the devil" in an interview with Vatican Radio last week. Monsignor Peter Fleetwood, an expert on New Age and former official at the Pontifical Council for Culture said: "I remain firmly convinced that the Harry Potter novels are very well written. They are written on the classical plot of good versus evil in the standard way that the old myths were written. The characters are built up around that: the goodies and the baddies so to speak, and I can't see that that's a bad thing for children, when goodness, and the people on the side of goodness are portrayed as the ones who will eventually win. Harry's enemies resort to all sorts of evil things, and they are the ones who loose in the end. I don't see what's wrong with that, and I can't see that does any harm to children." Harry Potter isn't as harmless as he seems, and could possibly draw a child into things they don't understand - especially, if they aren't well grounded in the Word of God! Not to mention the new homosexuality issue that has been "outed" regarding Potter in public recently. Plenty not to like! The Bible warns against witchcraft and "other gods". Potter is so popular, you might not catch these issues. The majority is not always right, but GOD is!!!

Magi means wiseman. So, I think they were astrologers, not magicians, per se. Anyway, magic generally suggests communication with the dead (which is mentioned in the Bible as sinful) and a bunch of other bad things that involve superstition (which is the idea that the human can obtain divine powers).
Anyway who cares. Harry Potter is a fictional tale. It's fun to read. I'm Christian, I like it. I don't believe magic is real, and I'm not about to go out and try it.

You should say "some" Christians. This Christian (and most Christians I know), are not interested in banning Harry Potter books, or anything else. I have a long track record of fighting censorship, and will continue to do so.

The magi came bearing gifts for the savior. If Harry Potter brings a gift and is prepared to eat cake and ice cream, he can come to the party too.

Technically, the Magi were followers of ancient texts combined with astrology. Known as Zoroastrians, they were looking for signs in the stars that would reveal Messiah.
But your original question? Christians would seek to ban Harry Potter books because they expose the youngest and most vulnerable of our society to the dark side of the spirit realm.
THAT is the side that exalts itself against God.

SOME Christians want to ban the Potter books, but not all Christians, and those who do want the ban are in the minority.
The Bible is number one on the Best Seller list for all time; it is not a "banned book" unless, perhaps, you know of some strange cult that has banned it.

Well im a Christian and i dont want HP banned, i think its brilliant! Seriously they say Christians generalise and judge?
And IF the 3 kings were magicians who says God cant work through them? Numerous times in the old testament God used enemies of Israel to show the Israelites what to do and how they had gone wrong.
God Bless

Everywhere you go, you are going to run into someone with an agenda. That's just a sad fact of life. The people who want to ban Harry Potter just want to be noticed, they publicize their distaste as a way to draw attention to themselves and further their agenda. Most of us don't care, and most of us probably like Harry Potter. Ignore them and their agenda will die, and they'll stop talking.

The reason many Christians have a problem with Harry Potter is because it portrays witches in a positive light. The Bible makes it clear that there is no such thing as a good witch and all authority and power given to them comes directly from Satan.

Not ALL Christians want to ban the Harry Potter books. In fact, I would say that most don't want to ban it.
Not reading them because they frown upon witchcraft and wanting to ban them are two totally different things.
