Let say, for the sake of argument, I agree society would be better off without Abrahamic Mythology. (First of all I do not believe there is one Abrahamic Mythology, but many mythologies, but be that as it may.)
How are we going to get there from here? Put all adherents of Judaism, Islam and Christianity in front of a firing squad?
I can imagine the day--sometime long in the future (unfortunately?)--when the ideas and stories associated with Judaism, Islam and Christianity are irrelevant.
But even if that day comes, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity will be part of our history. Those religions and all that they entail will still have what Alfred North Whitehead called "objective immortality." We will still be able to tell a story about how we developed from those "benighted" days until today.
And I suspect that even then, we will say--Judaism, Islam and Christianity made some things possible and retarded some things.
Plus, the Bible, the Koran, Talmud and other authoritative texts will still be great fun to study, even if only as irrelevant classics.

YES, resoundingly! How inane is it when a bunch of people out in some desert somewhere, anywhere, for that matter, figure that THEY are the only ones with a corner on the truth, and then kill other people to prove their point? Which is not to deny that a great deal of beauty and wisdom have also come from the tradition but on the whole, it has generated a lot of misery for a lot of people.
And exactly why would anyone say that "Western civilization" is the "best", given great Eastern and American cultures as well, because of the influences of the Abrahamic tradition?

The central focus of Abrahamic "mythology" is the family... That the earth is blessed through families.... Perhaps society would be a lot SMALLER without it, but I don't think it would be better. Personally, I think Islam, Judaism and Christianity are all good things.

Although I see your point, I also see that the society of the time needed rules (mostly to keep from destroying each other), and the earliest kinds of rules that peoples tend to make for themselves are religions. Since the society of the time was built more on brawn than on brains, and since it was men who had the brawn, the patriarchial bent of the Abrahamic religions was a natural result.

What do you mean by "better without it"? You haven't even defined what "better" means to you. Look, I also have issues with various religions, but you seem to believe humans would never kill, lie, and steal if everyone abandoned these religions or if they never existed in the first place. You are mistaken. Humans will always find something to argue about, and humans will always find some way to make the world a crappy place be it by using religion or something else.

In my opinion the world would be much better off without the whole Abrahamic Mythology.

Eh, if it wasn't the story of Abraham, then it would have been some other story that people clinged to. I think people would still have turned out to be weird either way.

Sorry dude. The best of the wordly societies - western civilization -sprang from Judeo-Christianity. Unless you want to go back driving a camel and living in a tent, count your blessings.

it's only weird when people take it as literal history... there is a lot of spiritual wisdom in texts if you understand the symbolism.

Um, no.
Thanks for sharing your point of view, inane as it is. How 'bout a little evidence to support your wild accusation?
