Grafton in northern NSW was named after Augustus Henry Fitzroy, the 3rd Duke of Grafton who was Prime Minister of Great Britain. The first Duke of Grafton was Henry Fitzroy, an illegitimate son of Charles II. Most royal bastards were named "Fitzroy" which means "son of the king".
The parents of one Prime Minister of Australia decided to celebrate the date and place of his birth by naming him Earle Christmas Grafton Page.

You don't say if Grafton is in Australia or New Zealand. If it's NZ, then Grafton is an area in central Auckland. It is quite a popular area for backpackers to stay in given it's central location and proximity to the Auckland Domain.

Grafton is a small town in N.S.W. - known for its jacaranda festival, & growingsugar cane, it is the hub for smaller communities growing oranges & rice in the surrounding areas. It was best known for growing marijuana in the 1980's & has periodically had scandels re growing illicit drugs.
