I have a Shiba Inu Purebred & a Shiba Inu/Poodle Mix...there both wonderful dogs. I would not choose any other breed. The purebred likes to escape the yard, but comes back on his own..and the mix is so loving and affectionate.

What does everyone else think of this breed?

My brother has a Shiba Inu. Her name is Mya and I think she is a sweet dog. My brother's whole family really lovers her!

They are smart, stubborn and will go to extremes to get their own way. Seriously! You will be manipulated by this dog at least once before you learn his ways. They constantly test boundaries, rules, and you. You have to be firm, consistent and a very strong leader. You have to be willing to MAKE these dogs behave. This is not the right dog for a first time dog owner. (you might not be, you don't mention either way) They are small, but NOT purse dogs. If you try to make this dog into a baby (dressing it up, letting it eat from your plate, etc.) he will become a biting, horrible terror. Obedience training is a must. All dogs shed. Brush them and it's not a problem. They need more exersize than the adverage small dog too. You'll need to take up jogging or teach him to run next to a bicycle.

okay first off letting the dog escape is not a good idea as the dog could bite someone while it is out and then you have a whole world of trouble . My cousin has one and he tries to be an escape artist too but my brother keeps an eye on him . why are you subjecting your neighbors to your dog ? Please be more responsible . not trying to be mean but need you to be more carefull and trying to keep you from being sued or worse having to have your dog put to sleep because it bit someone .
