I bet there are some... among all belief systems, there are probably a few people with little "last minute" concerns... but, I know I feel comfortable being atheist to the end...

Not this believer. Wasted my life in what way? Charitable behavior toward others? A strong interest in social justice? Helping others? My church promotes all these things, and whereas it's true that non-believers can also do these things, I was taught these concepts from earliest youth in my church, and am thankful for it. If I "wasted" my life helping others, then so be it. As for the redemption of Christ being a "fairy story", I respectfully disagree. I realize that not everyone shares my beliefs, and that's fine, but denigrating my beliefs as a "fairy story" isn't exactly a new way or creative way of cutting theists down. If you don't believe, then that's your business, and I won't slam you for it, because my church also taught me tolerance toward others.

I'd rather waste my life on a good, moral fairy story to find out there is nothing after death
then to die and realize that there is a heaven and hell and a God and I am going to hell.
Yup. "Wasting" my whole life on a 'fairy story' is worth the risk.

If what we practice is ever proven to be the latter than would it really matter to you if we say "oh god i've wasted my whole life on a fairy story?

I did not find The Truth of God untill I was 53... I had already reached that point with life in general... I now know that, while I had wasted my life, There is more than this mortal existance.

No. I haven't ever heard of that. No one wasts their life on a 'fairy story' God is not a fairy story. It is real.

No why would we fear that. We know that at the end of our lives we will be in Heaven with God for eternity. It would though be interesting to see how many atheists suddenly convert when at the end of their lives they find out just how wrong and ignorant they were.

I doubt it very much, if they put their faith in God. It frees you to not worry about death. I have a very fulfilling and exciting life because I dare to buck the world, and not be concerned with my own death. The blessings I have received are too numerous to mention, and I have a feeling of contentment that keeps me happy beyond anyone could achieve with drugs, lust, material things, etc. I chase perfection, not illusion, so I have not wasted a moment here.

No - not at all because I know what I believe to be true.
However, if what I believe is not true and there is no heaven or hell and when we die, that's it. I would not lose anything.
On the other hand, Do un-believers fear that they will get to the end of their life and realize they were wrong and now it is too late? Because from them to be wrong and me to be right, they would lose it all.
