find something (a piece of art, clothing, or furniture) that you have loved for a while, and are sure you will love in the future (in a DEFINITE can-see-myself way). then base your colors off of that. i would recommend using pale colors with only one accent color (such as white and tan with a bright red, or something). this way, you can accent (hence accent color) what is important to you, and what you want to stand out.
do something you love, and good luck!

I do agree that lighter colors beside white can make a room appear more spacious. My previous bedroom was light light green and it was very pretty yet relaxing, not a stunning kind of way.
You can buy those wall to wall borderings but keep it an adult like design, but not too tacky. (Ex: flowers or slashes of paint)
Sometimes, it does not really matter how you paint the room when it is a small room, but more of what you put in the room and where those things go. The real question is how would you like your dream room to be ?( but be a little realistic)
I would suggest:
1) Pick a theme you want ( dogs, birds, blue sky, starry nights..ocean...)
2) Stick to only a few themed colors ( 3 may be best because too many unmatching colors might not look too great... but it would make an interesting room)
3)Have fun! Don't let others judge or alter how you would want your room to look.
But to make it easy: keep in mind what you know your parents or others would not really like you to keep in your room. I shoudl say #1 is to eliminate things you know should not belong. That will help narrow your choices.
Your room defines who you really are!! Good Luck!

Well.. I wanted my room to look bigger than it was so I can tell you what I did to make it look a lot bigger. .. The smallest wall, I painted happy camper green. Then on the other two walls (the fourth wall is a closet) I split in half. On the top, I painted it the same color green and I painted the bottom an off white color then put a black border where the white and green meet on the two walls. It made my room a lot bigger than is usually was. Or you could always paint one wall a full color, and the other three another color. I'd go for dark and light colors. Goodluck.

White would make the room look bigger, but it might also be kind of boring. I would recommend some other light color, like a pale green or yellow. Have fun!

1] What color is your furniture? Warm [ golden oak, maple ], or cool [ cherry, ash ] tones? Pick bedding and wall tones that complement the wood. example: peach or sage may look good with golden oak, while soft blue or mint green might go well with cherry.
White can be very boring; try another pastel you like.
2] start with bedding and comforter. Buy a print in 2-3 colors you like. Use one of the light shades for painting the walls. You can use a second shade for the trim, or a deeper shade of the first. example: banana yellow with leafgreen trim, or banana with lemon yellow trim.
3] Add drapes in same fabric or one of the colors.
4] Add large accessories in color two [ chair, rug, pillows ] and small in color color three
[ candles, desk and dresser accessories.]
ex: banana walls, leaf green chair and rug, pillows with banana, leaf, and peach stripes; candles, dresser and desk sets in peach.
Of course, just use the idea with your colors!
