God gave us free will….. but did he really? We are taught that you have free will to choose to love god, or go to hell. Is that really a choice? That sounds more like an ultimatum!! Is that really free will, can we have some other options?

I should have emphasized the ultimatum part. Isn't free will more of an ultimatum than a choice? If you do not think it is an ultimatum, please explain how it is not.

Yes, that is free will.

Working with teens and alcohol and drug programs I learned a form of this that helped me understand free will much better. In it we used a technique called Choices and Responsibilities. Basically it is this...

Choice - Should I take a drink, I am not old enough to drink

Consequences - I will have fun at this party
People will not make fun of me
I could get caught if the police come
My parents would lose trust in me
Someone might get hurt

The choice is yours, but whatever the consequences are no one (including God) is going to take responsibility for them but you, they are your choices, you will accept whatever that entails.

So, free will, choose God, do not choose God. You know the consequences...but you cannot really be an atheist and fear hell because one negates the other. So to choose Hell, is essentially to choose God. It boggles the mind doesn't it.

No, it's not an ultimatum. It's an ultimatum only if you perceive Mankind as innocent and worthy of Heaven. If we're not worthy of Heaven, then Hell isn't an ultimatum -- it's simply what we deserve as a result of our fallen nature. Therefore you get only one option, not two, and it's a loving God that has to pull you away from your nature. That's why it's called salvation.

An ultimatum limits the choices, hmmmm let me see. Is that kind of like what atheists do when posting questions? As I recall it is one of their favorite tactics.

Apparently, thoughout the ages, most people have made the choice to spend eternity separated from God. It appears to be overwhelmingly the popular choice for those who are of the world.

I prefer to be in the world, and not of it. My choice is to follow Christ, and have been ridiculed for it. It's not the easy road, but I have faith that it's the right road.

It is free will because you have the CHOICE. It isn't forced upon you. You have to make the decision about whether you serve the Lord or whether you don't.

There are only two masters: God and the devil. Serve one or the other. your choice. And if you want to serve yourself instead, too bad. Our Lord said you're either for me or against me. So if it's not Jesus, It's an idol.

There are many ways to worship. You have to find the one which feels right to you. However, if you don't believe in God, Satan, Heaven, or Hell, what does it matter?

God gives us free will for everything we do. He tells us in his word that if you don't give your life to Him you have the free will to go to hell. God gives you up to your death bed to give your life to Him. He doesn't want you to go to hell because He knows what you will go thru and He don't want that for His children. May God bless you.
