Yesterday I got pulled over for the first time. I got a speeding ticket for going 84 in a 55 on the 4 lane...since I've never pulled over, I was closest to the left side and pulled over there, he gave me another ticket for improper yield to an emergency vehicle! I have to attend court now and I have no idea what is going to happen...by the way he told me he wasn't going to take my drivers license this time! ANY advice would help!

Measha...I only got 2 tickets...one for speeding and the improper yield to an emergency vehicle was because when he stopped me I pulled over on the left instead of the right.

Just FYI, Always pull over to the right. It is for the safety of everyone involved. I would ask to speak with the local prosecutor on the Improper Yield to Emergency Vehicle. The Speeding ticket will be a fine and possibly points on your license. This is nothing that you will lose your license over in Missouri. Again I would explain the confusion to the prosecutor on the Improper Yield charge. He may be willing to drop it if you plead guilty to the Speeding.

Go to court and try to cut a deal with the Asst. District Attorney. They are so busy with drunk drivers etc. that they don't have time for these offences. They will usually plead it down to a non-moving violation. They should if this is the first ticket you got.

If they won't budge, I would get an attorney ... while there look at other cases and find an attorney representing someone else who is friendly with the judge. Ask for their business card.

When your case come up, tell the judge that you wish to be represented by counsel and you request a continuance.

Come back with one of those attorneys.. bet they will cut a deal for you.

BTW, if you are a AAA member they have a legal defense fund and will reimburse upto a certain amount for an attorney.

first of all....wow!! u should be happy u just got a speeding ticket because that is actually wreckless driving. trust me my first time getting pulled over i was doing 68 in a 45. i went to court. since it was my first offense the judge took it down to speeding and made me pay a fine and the court costs. so if this is your very first time getting pulled over in your life....and ur record is clean....he or she will probably make u pay the fine and the court costs. Just be happy u didn't get wreckless driving. hopefully they don't do anything with ur points! and i'm not sure but u might have to take a class. by the way if you were cooperative and didn't give any attitude thats good too. so just be careful and take it easy on the driving.
Just pray and i wish you luck in court!

Advice? Do you think it will do any good?

Well... OK.

1. Pay attention to speed limit signs.

2. God gave you more common sense than a rock. Use it. You don't stop in the middle of the highway.

3. Read the driver's manual - especially the part about yielding to an emergency vehicle. It says very plainly to pull off to the right. If you have no common sense (see no. 2) at least read the manual.

4. READ THE DAMN MANUAL.

Yes....you'll additionally contest a radar or laser price tag. However, your probabilities of combating it are slender. If it's you vs the cop, the pass judgement on will move at the assumption the cop has no cause to lie however you do. YOU desire to get out of the price tag, now not pay the great and now not get the elements. If you base your protection at the cop telling a lie for a few unknown cause, your probabilities of successful are approximately 0. You will have got to combat it at the assumption the cop made an errors in calculating the velocity. Since you're asking approximately non-radar/laser approaches, sure there are different approaches that can be utilized. If the cop pulled up at the back of you to your blind spot after which matched your velocity, studying his CERTIFIED speedometer, and sees that you just had been over the restrict (in most cases it needs to be a designated quantity, similar to five mph to enable for errors to your uncertified speedometer) he can supply you price tag centered upon tracked and discovered velocity over the restrict. You will have got to furnish fair doubt as to the accuracy of the way he did it. IE: Springtime and so they simply switched to summer season tires from their wintry weather tires. Did they recertify his speedometer? They can also use a timer gadget in a few places. The cop can begin one give up watch as you move a exact mark, then while he crosses the identical mark, he begins a moment give up watch. Then whilst you move yet another mark, he stops the primary one, and while he crosses the identical moment mark, he stops the moment. A pc then suits the 2 give up watches and the gap traveled and is derived up with a velocity to your auto. They even enable in a few places the cop to mark out 1 / 4 mile and he then sits with a give up watch and "clocks' you (that's wherein the time period got here from) as you journey the quarter mile. If the velocity restrict is 60 mph, he is aware of to move one mile must take you greater than one million minute, and to move 1 / 4 mile, it must take you greater than 15 seconds. If you do it in 10 seconds, he is aware of you had been rushing and once more can supply you a price tag. Pay the price tag and watch your velocity.

Don't panic and go fight you ticket in court. You have good chances of beating or at least reducing it. I always fight my tickets, and most of the time I get them at least reduced. And you have a lot to loose - speeding fine is just a tip of the iceberg, you'll see a serious increase in your insurance bill.

There is a plenty of info available on the net, some free and some paid. As usual, you get what you pay for :) If you are lazy to search, try this one:

It has a good description of what is going on in the courtroom, and a set of smart strategies to beat your ticket. It costs like 30 bucks, but it's well woth it IMO.

Good luck!

You could have had your car impounded... luck you he didn't do it. If you figtht the ticket and lose you'll get stuck paying and have a mark on your driving record. Traffic school, if you are eligible, will be a good way to get it over with and not have any blemishes on your record. Fight the battles that are worth it, don't sweat the small stuff.

Your going to have to pay for the ticket.... The judge might allow you to go to traffic school, but because you were going almost 30 mph over the limit - it's quite a lot... It's also not going to be cheap so start saving... Good luck.....

If you live in California, you can visit www.ticketassassin.com on how to beat your speeding ticket. I used the site last year to beat a ticket and I have two friends who have done the same thing.
