First of all, thanks for your service.

No, you do not get a medical disability for substance abuse.

I think you need to think really hard before you head down the wrong path too far. You sound like you may be looking for someone to blame for everything that ever goes wrong. Look at the facts.

You were in Colorado when this started. You made some bad personal choices, no one made those for you or set any traps for you. You finally got processed out after some time in Iraq or Afghanistan, but this started in Colorado.

Nobody screwed you over but you. It was your choice that led to this. Take responsibility for it and move on. You have an Honorable Discharge, it could be a lot worse.

Grow a pair and take charge of your own life and start doing something with it. Stop looking for someone to tell you it's okay to be a homeless alcoholic, since it's the Army's fault.

Take responsibility for where you are, because if you don't, that's where you're going to stay.

What was your time in service? If you had over three years in, then you are still entitled to your GI Bill as long as it was gen under honorable. If you had gotten a gen under dishonorable or a dishonorable then you are not entitled to anything. If you were in for less than 3 years then you are not entitled to the GI Bill. I am sorry for your problems, I do not disagree with what the military did to you since when you signed up I hope you planned to defend your country at all costs. The Army was allowing you the privilege of doing your job! I hope that you do get better. You are entitled to care at the VA Hospital and they offer wonderful options of care. If you feel that you are entitled to disability due to your drinking then you should pursue it, I am not saying that it is the right thing to do. Good luck in whatever you decide and I hope that life brings you happiness. Take Care! :)

Google "Board for Correction of Military Records." There is a slim chance that your general discharge may be upgraded to an honorable. Your chances of getting any type of disability out of the military right now are zero (you have to file for and get disability BEFORE you separate) but if you get your discharge upgraded you get your GI Bill. You may also want to call your nearest Air Force Base and get the number for the Office of the Area Defense Counsel -- they can point you in the right direction and may even be able to put you in touch with someone who can help you if you decide to take your case to the BCMR.

an identical way you enlisted the 1st time: bypass see a recruiter. With a time-honored discharge, you're able to desire to not have any hardship. in the journey that your determine provider isn't hiring (with a view to chat) you are able to continuously examine with different amenities, they in many circumstances have somewhat diverse admission standards. i comprehend that it somewhat is a risk to enhance the character of your discharge after a undeniable volume of time, yet i'm afraid i can not supply any specifics. a good recruiter could desire to have the flexibility to assist with that to boot. good good fortune to you.

I'm sure there's alot in your story that was conveniently left out. If the truth were known, you were probably lucky you didn't spend time in the slam !
