I have been dating my bf for just under 3 months. He is a very intelligent and sweet guy who treats me well, and he also thinks farting is absolutly hilarious.

One of his favorite jokes begins with him asking, "Want to hear something funny?" and ends with him passing gas.

Why do so many men find this funny?

As immature as it is, farting will always be funny. I still laugh at it till this day with my friends. Honestly, I don't think it is just a man thing. Farting will always be a joke amongst all of us in some sort of way. Why its so funny, is still questionable LOL

Now if he "dutch ovens" you, that is when its an issue ha ha

Science has scratched their heads over this one for millions of years and has no answers. One thing you can be assured of, fart jokes will be funny in the year 3000. You must accept it the same as you accept the sun rising in the east.

HA! He sounds like a scream! I don't care what people say, farts are funny! My last gf, I was with for 1 1/2 years was appalled by farts at first, but towards the end, she farted more than I did! Give it a try, you'll love it too!

There are genetic differences between men and women. For example, men find farts and The Three Stooges funny and women do not. On the other hand, women can name far more colors than men.

OMG you are so right. I don't know the answer to your question but I told my husband the other day he had to have a talk with our boys (5 & 8) about farting. He asked why. I told him they were laughing hysterically in the tub and I went in to find out what was going on they were farting in the tub to see the bubbles, then cracking up about it. My husband just looked at me and started laughing!

He doesn't understand, if he's laughing at something as dumb as that.

Now that being said passing gas can be very hilarious, butt.... it's like all comedy, timing is EVERYTHING. Laughing at every fart means maybe he's not as intelligent as he had led you to believe.

When someone says "please bow your head for a moment of silence" and then you hear "phss" from someones butt, then your gonna see me break up laughing, because that guy held that fart as long as he could and had to let it go then, of all times, it's funny because others embarrassment is funny.

Once again timing is everything.

Can you name this tune in one note? riiiiiiiiiipppppppp! whats not funny about that. What is not funny about farting in the woman's shoe dept and then watching them walking through it while you laugh from a distance.

Not all guys have this problem, but it does seem to be true that flatulence is more of an issue with men than women. Some of this may be due to physiological differences between the sexes.

In both males and females, gas is formed by swallowing air during eating (usually causes burping), as well as by the normal bacteria in the colon. These bacteria break down leftover nutrients in waste and produce methane gas as a bi-product. Perhaps the efficiency of digestion, or the types of bacteria differ between males and females, resulting in different amounts of flatulence.

Unfortunately, there does not appear to be any way to change the balance of bacteria in the colon. Antibiotics, enemas, and laxatives all may temporarily change the colon's environment, but ultimately the mix seems to be genetically predetermined. Certainly, diet can affect the production of methane. For some individuals things like spices, legumes, raw fruits or vegetables, and bran all can serve to stimulate gas production. By determining which foods cause his flatulence, you can help your boyfriend, and yourself, by reminding him of the foods he should avoid. Finally, if your boyfriend is lactose intolerant, this could contribute to his gassiness and he could try an over-the-counter treatment like lactaid before he ingests dairy.

I also think that part of this discrepancy between males and females is probably social. Some men find passing gas funny and are amused by farting in public. If you think that this is part of your boyfriend's problem, tell him to grow up.

because it might be embarassing to him so the only way to make it not so uncomfortable is to try and make a joke outta it cause holding in farts doesn't feel too good and that might be the only way he can deal with it by making it seem as if it were funny and not disgusting
