This behaviour is normal for both male and female rats. Female rats come into heat about once or twice a week; the urge to mate comes with this. If there are no male rats are present, they will naturally try to fulfill their needs with a cagemate, even if they are related. It's a completely instinctual response and they do not know any better.
Sleeping together is another normal occurence with rats and is not sexual. Rats are very social and will sleep next to other rats for companionship, security, and warmth. Small enclosed spaces also make them feel safer than large open ones, which is why they choose the igloo over the castle.

Rats sleep in piles because it is warm, and they are social animals.

I make hammocks using rags and towel scraps and zip-ties. They like hammocks that are higher up in the cage, or if the cage is multi-layer, hammocks as close the top of a lower level. It's adorable to see them sleep in piles because you never know who is going to be layered in the middle. You can see tails without heads, feet sticking up from the middle!

Humping is normal. They go into heat every few days. It is also how they establish dominance. Within a rat colony, there is always a pecking order and there are always some challenging others to see who is higher up. The leader is the alpha, the second is the beta. There is always going to be one who is on the top and one who is on the bottom of the pecking order.

Female rats hump each other to establish dominance. It's normal and it should stop. They snuggle together in a small igloo to keep warm, have company and they enjoy being in small places when they sleep. If you give them rags, they will scrunch them all up and sleep inside the ball they create. Rats are social animals and will be close to each other as often as they can.

It has no longer something to do with intercourse. it truly is related to dominance. The dominant(alpha) rat will hump the others so as that they understand its boss. I even have one little boy who oftentimes humps certainly one of his cage friends. He does this on each and every occasion he feels that the different is complicated his postion. I wouldnt worry approximately it, its all area of finding out the pecking order.

They are probably cold and need to warm each other, or dominate.
