Well, i'm not sure why. Maybe it's because they truly think they have to "save your soul." Whatever that means. I'm actually not that kind of person at all. So if you want, I'm free for a totally adult conversation. Anyways, yeah I don't know why that is, but I'm not like that and I'm a christian.

Maybe you subconsciously bait them. I've had hundreds of conversations with Atheists where the subject of religion never came up. We talk about Waterless cookware, Why we're voting for anyone but Bush, Particle Accelerators, our gardens, why Dawn is better then other detergents.

Maybe you shouldn't lead the conversation with "I'm an Atheist". Taking a cue from Sandburg maybe int he Hangman's house there are subjects you should avoid?

I get the same thing when I say I'm pagan. there are also many atheists on here who "insult, preach, and damn to 'stupidity'," Christians as well as other theists. So I've gotten hate from both ends.

Maybe you come at them fighting. Maybe you are looking for a problem. You can be an atheist. I don't care. It is your life and afterlife and I am not going to argue with you but if you are looking for one most people will give you one because they think they can convince you and actually care about the person they are talking to

Would you like to have an adult conversation with a Christian? I'd be glad to oblige, and talk about whatever your heart desires. =) But first, I'd like to establish that you're going to hell and that I love you anyways.

Heh, just kidding.

Christian information transfer is usually hierarchical in nature. If they aren't in the congregation they think they are the pulpit master.
