Simple answer... there is money to be made.
There is no reguard for the dogs involved, its a cruel and horrible thing to be involved in, and all for money....
None of the penalties people receive for being involved in this horrible 'sport' are NOT nearly harsh enough, rarely do people even see the inside of a jail cell. IMHO if there were stiffer penalties there would be more of a decline in these fighting rings.
Working in rescue I have seen the aftermath of a pit fight, and its....just......inhumane. I think a fitting punishment would be to turn the dogs on the people fighting..... but Im a little sensitive when it come to this issue...

Some people get pleasure from causing violent acts to other people or animals. It makes them feel big and powerful to do so.
I don't know what "the National Football League/Michael Vick situation" is (looked it up, couldn't find anything), but I think that dog-fighting is sick and am very glad it is illegal in the UK. People who are involved should be sent to prison and never allowed near animals again!

It's part of our history. At one time blood sport - bull baiting, dog fighting, rooster fighting and other sports where animals are pitted against each other - was considered honorable and fun. - and even today many cultures look at blood sport as honorable. Spain has its matadors and the running of the bulls... all of which end up dead in the arenas.
Dates back to ancient times - there are ancient Greek pots with young men vaulting over raging bulls. The amphitheaters of Rome were the sites of great spectacles where animals and men were pitted against each other.
Rome was particularly brutal. It was how it was.
Today, however, in the US and other countries, blood sport is no longer considered appropriate. Indeed it is now recognized as what it is - horrible and barbaric.
Insofar as Michael Vick and his "house guests?" - well, has anyone ever thought about the money involved with breeding, training and fighting a champion fighting dog? Lots of money to be made in this activity. So much money that people forget that it is illegal.

People have too much time on their hands. The obsession with pain and death is a bad scene. One of these days this guy will not be an NFL player and he will have to live through the pain he has put animals through. His mother should have put him in therapy when he was young. I was told when my son was young that when a child is cruel to animals, it is a sign of emotional problems. I recognized that I needed to start my son in therapy when he was 4, and it worked. He turned into the kindest hearted man I have ever known. It is amazing how much and how quickly adults can screw a kids head up......you wouldn't think a 4 year old would be affected by anything. But the violence he observed being with my parents forced him to act out as it is did me at a young age. But there is one thing to remember as well....there is such a thing called Karma.....we all pay for the negative things we do to others and especially to dumb animals.

Yeah like someone said earlier there is money to be made. But when it's a quarter back for the Atlanta Falcons, I don't think there is any excuse.
He has millions of dollars and his family is having dogs fight? It makes no sense.
His house should be seized, he should be fined and jailed, and he should be kicked out of the NFL.
And him nor anyone else in his family should own a dog ever again!
Michael Vick is a piece of s*** including his cousin and whoever else is involved!

***Police conducting a drug investigation raided a Vick-owned house in Smithfield, Va., and reported finding dozens of dogs, some injured and emaciated.
Investigators also discovered items associated with dog fighting, including veterinary supplies, blood-soaked carpeting, treadmills used for training and tools used to pry apart a dog's jaws.
Vick said he's never been to the home, even though he owns it and was letting a cousin live there. He blamed relatives for taking advantage of his generosity and vowed to keep closer tabs on his inner circle.
While Vick said he's not involved in dog fighting, a Web site shed light on his apparent interest in breeding through a business known as "Mike Vick K-9 Kennels."
The site, www.vicksk9kennels.com, said Vick specializes in breeding registered puppies ranging from rare pit bull terriers to "the highly intelligent and powerful Presa Canario." It also contains a disclaimer that any of its dogs were used for fighting.
"We breed specifically for ourselves first and foremost, and when/if we do sell puppies to the public, all prospective buyers are carefully screened," the Web site says. "We do not promote, support, or raise dogs for fighting and will not knowingly sell, give, or trade any dog that may be used for fighting.
"Our dogs are all family pets," the site adds, "and our puppies are all socialized and home raised."

Gambling. Anything anyone can bet on to win money the excitement is in the winning. No matter the cost. Some people lay their family jobs life on the line - Its apparently an addiction and we are supposed to help them as if its a disease. Im not buying it. There need to be better laws to protect the animals rights. A gambler may be a gambler but there is no excuse and you should be able to know right from wrong.

i think of it somewhat is in all probability a incredibly uncomplicated prepare yet definately not the top all answer in each and every subject. i comprehend lots of the Vick canines have been taken in by potential of shelters and rehabilitated. I even have somewhat spoken with an proprietor of one of the former Vick struggling with canines and he or she stated that dogs is somewhat superb. i think of a few have been used for treatment artwork to boot. I do have faith there have been some that deemed too risky and have been no adoptable. yet that became right into a incredibly intense profile subject

I also saw that on television. People bet on dogs to win a dog fight. They also do that to prove they are better and their dogs are better. They do this mainly to make money though. It said on television that people may bet thousands of dollars for a dog to win. Don't worry, I don't participate in dog fights, all of this is off animal cops!

THINK!
"The animals are only doing what they are trained to do!!!! No one can get hurt by a GUN if someone else doesn’t have their finger on the trigger, the same holds true for American Bulldogs & PITS"!!!!!!!!!
BAN THE DEED NOT THE BREED!
