I want to know because I am trying to decide if it is worthwhile to sew my own pillow and buy the down. Down pillows are so expensive from the store.

Down comes in 2 types, duck or goose. Duck is considered cheaper, goose is softer, more expensive.. Many people cannot tell nor care about the difference. There is also locally produced down and down from China and other parts of Asia.
As for sewing it yourself, remember that down gets lumpy very quickly. This is the reason it is sewn into quilt like pockets (see down blankets)
You will need to wash pillows often for hygienic reasons(dust mite removal)

Do an online search and see what the weight of the pillow is--that's how much down is in it because the covering isn't going to weigh more than an ounce. I don't think any pillow out there has a pound of down in it.

I got new pillows from J.C. Penny a couple of months ago that feel just like a down pillow but it is polyester fiber fill. I think they were $20 each. If you have a J.C. Penny near you, the pillow is part of their "Home Collection".

you'd have to weigh the down pillow, and estimte the weight of the fabric, sub can probably find the weight if a down pillow on the internet, if it doesn't say the weight, look at the shipping costs and it will normally say how much it weighs. you'd probably need that much down.

It probably depends on the people who make it, but you could also weigh one at home when you get it. I'm not sure if you can return pillows, though, so it might not work to just buy them & weigh them yourself. It's sounding like I don't know so far. Sorry!

Down doesn't weigh much .........
standard pillow has 10 oz of down
Queen size 12 oz
King size 14-15 ozs

I don't think there is a standard. I believe it depends on the manufacturer. regular pillows differ and the standard for 'overstuffed' pillows will differ by manufacturer as well.
