I know a 40-yr. old man who is a retired US Air Force Veteran, & he acts as he never went. He has no morals whatsoever. & this man thinks he's a hardcore thug, & he has an 8-month old baby with a 17-yr. old child. What did the military teach him all these years? & he acts very immature, too.

The military has all kinds. People from every walk of life are in or have been in the military; and not everyone in the military is of, shall we say, "prime quality". While it's true that the military can make you a better person, they can't FORCE you to become something you're not. I've known plenty of people like the fellow you mentioned--there's no question that there are plenty of dirtbags who serve in the military, because there's no question that there are plenty of dirtbags, anywhere. Unfortunate as it may be, the military's not immune to punks signing up. However--and this is a BIG however--the majority of those who DO sign up and serve honorably are just that: honorable. There will always be the unsavory few who slip through the cracks and leech off of others, like this guy you mentioned; and if you ask anyone who is in, or has been in, they'll tell you they knew plenty of dirtbags too. It's just an unfortunate fact of life in the service.

This is unfortunate, but, hey, if you compare military people to civilians, the civilians will come out on the short end of the stick. The military is better educated, has higher standards, make better employees, employers, parents, the whole nine yards.
There were always those in the military who were "10-percenters".
