What an interesting question. I do hope that this doesn't turn into a breed-bashing thread and everyone's opinions are respected.

You can probably tell by my nickname what answer I'm going to give.

I love bulldogs. I have 3 bitches and they give me so much love, joy and companionship.

No matter how sad I am I don't look as down in the dumps as they do!! They never seem to look happy (apart from the wagging tail).

My girls are great with kids, dogs & other animals and are really friendly. They know when someone is feeling down and try to cheer them up in their own way.

When there is something to celebrate they are there too! Two of my girls remind me of Tigger - always bouncing around.

Whenever they are taken out and about they are real show stoppers and I can't take more than a couple of steps without someone wanting to greet them.

They are tough, loyal, affectionate, stubborn, proud, determined and persistent dogs. The best of British!

The best breeds I have owned were 30 pounds or under and mixed breeds. They were pretty easy to train, not to mention all my dogs were rescue dogs so I saved lives. Same with my 17 year old cat who is a rescue too.

My first dog was a dachshund mix (maybe with a lab and we don't know how that happened lol). My second dog is a chihuahua/jack russell mix and is not hyper. We often have strangers asking us to breed her because she is so cute and has beautiful markings. She is VERY sweet and well tempered. I recently adopted a Papillion who we are working with because he has aggression issues. We believe he was abused in his first home. He is VERY sweet and happy with people he knows.

Anyway, with proper training and a lot of attention and exercise, any dog would be a great companion. I tend to go for smaller dogs because I live in a smaller townhouse. Over all, mixed breeds have had the best temperament in my experience. If you have a bigger home with a yard, a bigger dog would be terrific too. I looked at the shelters until I found the right pet for me.

Our dog is a mixed breed of Golden Retriever and Yellow Lab. He is the most loveable, protective dog. If you want a dog that shows unconditional love and affection, this breed is the one to choose. We adopted him from an animal shelter almost 11 years ago, and he has given us nothing but joy since then.

I don't have a favorite really. I like a variety of dogs. Right now i own five English Bulldogs. I love these dogs to death. Many people think they are vicious because their fangs stick out but my bulldogs have never hurt anyone. They are very friendly because I have raised them all as pups...i have the pup, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother...right away they can be a little hyper if they don't have enough room to roam, but if you have them in your house I don't think you should have a problem of having them tear around the place...they aren't dogs that you take for long walks but you can get them hyper if you wanna romp with them or just sit and pet them. They are very sweet. Only down-side of breeding them is that they usually have to have ceserean sections and require more work than some. But they can have between 5-10 pups each worth between $1,500-2,000! So they are definately worth the little extra work.

German Shepard's and Boxers

Since I was a child there has ALWAYS been a boxer in our home. They are very love able and also protective. Very sweet breed. Currently we own a German Shepard and he is wonderful!! He is very protective (especially of our 2yr old daughter) , he's love able , and very patient ( he let's the baby climb all over him). The only down side to these breeds are that they are highly active dogs, they need at least 1 hour of exercise a day.

I like labs over other breeds. Labs shed less then long haired breeds (golden retrievers) are known as one of the smartest breeds, can be trained from everything such as hunting to gaurd duty. I dislike little dogs and find them mostly loud and untrained by owners who think there little dogs are so cute, meanwhile everyone else thinks they are a pain in the butt and disruptive. Little dog owners never seem to train there dogs and these little dogs annoy everyone. Why buy a big rat they are not even real dogs

Golden Retriever... They have amazing personalities and a genuine love of life that has to be experienced to be understood. They are smart, personable, affectionate and just all around good natured and kind hearted. Spend time with a Golden and you will know beyond a doubt dogs do have souls.
I think dogs are great in general and it's hard to pick just one as a favorite but if pressed the Golden is my first choice.

Boxer

From the day I was born, to having a home and children of my own, most of my days have been with a boxer in the family. I can find no other dog that I'm more compatable with. I love the way they play like puppies for most of their life, the whiney wookie sounds they make, how wonderful they were with me when I was a child and how they are with my children now and how important their people families are to them. No other dog personality touches me the same.

Miniature schnauzer! We have 2 of them (male and female). They are smaller than standard schnauzers, weigh between 15-25 pounds each. Female is very territorial and enjoys "singing" and the male just loves affection...a real lap dog. They do not shed - which is great when you have allergies. They are energetic and so lovable. I wouldn't be without a schnauzer! :)
