Texas is a big place.
- Big place equals lots of people. So there are more not cases, just as there are more heroes & more mechanics & more of every other group of people.
There are many rural areas in Texas.
- A person suffering from depression will more easily slip through the tracks & not get the help they need. Also, it appears this woman was a recent immigrant to America. She probably knew very little English, adding to the feeling of isolation.

I don't think it is inherently Texan. While the articles tend to mention the following, today's headlines also list young female celebrities gone bad, and headlines of husbands killing their pregnant wives wasn't too long ago either. Susan Smith (the mom who drove the car into the lake) wasn't Texan
"Texas has seen a number of child killings by mothers in recent years. Less than five years earlier, another Hudson Oaks family was torn apart when Dee Etta Perez, 39, shot her three children, ages 4, 9 and 10, before killing herself. Andrea Yates drowned her five children in the family's Houston bathtub in 2001. In 2003, Deanna Laney beat her two young sons to death with stones in East Texas, and Lisa Ann Diaz drowned her daughters in a Plano bathtub. Dena Schlosser fatally severed her 10-month-old daughter's arms with a kitchen knife in 2004. All four of those women were found innocent by reason of insanity.".

the state of Texas hasn't gone mad, but it looks like some of the people in Texas have gone mad though.

Why are you blaming it on Texas? It is not the state of Texas that has a problem. It is people.
