I see you got several answers, most wrong. The current regulations state that you do not need a passport to DRIVE to and from Canada from the United States. You need one if you are flying, and after january of 2008 you will need one for all modes of travel to and from Canada and Mexico. The best thing to do is go to the website listed below and read the regulations for yourself for your own peace of mnd. Also, go ahead and apply for a passport WAAAAY before next January. There is a terrible backlog of applications right now and that will only get worse as next January approaches. On the same site, you can get all the info you need on how to apply for a passport.

I stay 10 minutes faraway from the Canada/united states of america of united statesa. Tunnel and Bridge. It takes us 3 minutes to circulate the bridge and we are in united states of america of united statesa.. Canada and united states of america of united statesa. are separated by employing a a million mile extensive river yet we are 2 separate international places. because of the fact of 9/11 it somewhat is definitely mandatory to have a passport to circulate the border for the protection of the two international places. As for entering Canada on a start certificates and characteristic your passport mailed to canada, they gained't do this. Your Passport must be mailed to the handle the place you completely stay.

I've driven to Canada and back twice since the September 11 attacks. One time in summer of 2004, and the other time in the spring of 2005.
I did NOT need a passport. I don't even own a passport.
I had my birth certificate with me, but they did not ask for it.
I was only ever required to show my driver's license.

You dont necessarily need a passport, for the most part a drivers liscense is fine, however the border agents can be a pain in the *** sometimes, so if you have a passport bring it if not you should be fine

I recently checked for someone else and I believe that A is technically correct. I have been into Canada and back in recent years and personally I would always go with C. It just makes life easier.
I just checked and B would be the minimum acceptable.
