I believe that my actions and the way I lived my life will get me into Heaven, not having water dripped on my head or being thrown into a river.

Baptism is the public profession of your newfound faith, nothing more, nothing less.

Jesus was not commanded to be baptised, he chose to do it.

The ritual of the baptism signifies the death of the old sinning person, and the rebirth of a clean spirit, dedicating itself to God.
It is usually done so that a body of believers (Church) can see that you've accepted Christ.

If you choose not to publicly profess your faith, that is your business. It is perfectly acceptable to silently accept Christ into your heart.

Jesus said, "I am the narrow gate, no man shall come to the father, but through me." You'll notice it didn't say anything about being baptisted, just that you go to the father through the son.

Well, I think you mean baptized...

Baptism is a public testimony of your decision to follow Christ. You do not have to be baptized to be saved, but if you are saved, why wouldn't you want to be baptized? Jesus said if we deny Him on earth, He will deny us in Heaven. Your actions and the way you live your life will not get you into Heaven. Jesus tells us in John 14:6 that NO ONE comes to the Father except through Him.

Both baptisms are essential ... they were ordained by God, who gave the commandments to his Son, Jesus Christ ... the two baptisms 1. Water for the remission of sins and a symbol of being buried with Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38, Romans 6:4 .. Colossians 2:12) and 2. being baptized with the Holy Ghost and Fire ... (Matthew 3:11, John 1:33 and John 3:3-7)

Read the bible scripture reference ... You must be baptized (fully emerged in water ... not sprinkled).

Read Matt 3:11, Mark 1:8, Acts 2:38, Acts 22:18, James 2:14-26

You may have deeds, but to completely have faith, you must believe in baptism in water, spirit, and fire. One must be sanctified, spotless, and blemish(sin)-free to enter heaven. Baptism takes care of cleansing and cleaving the carnality of our flesh, the blemishes to our soul.

Trust Him on this one.

you are right you will go to heaven if you are good, and you will be close to god. Baptism is a right of passage in some churches and in others it is an initiation. it is what make a person part of the group and gives them an identity with their church. but if you don't feel like belonging to a church which isn't a requirement to go to heaven then you don't need to be baptized.

Peter clearly taught that baptism was not a ceremonial act of physical purification, but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. Baptism is the symbol of what has already occurred in the heart and life of one who has trusted Christ as Savior. Baptism cannot be a requirement for salvation. To make it such is an attack on the sufficiency of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

It's symbolic for starting your life out with the religion you get baptized in. I think the water is supposed to be Holy Water, so it has something to do with getting rid of original sin.
Also, during the medieval ages, people used to think (especially Catholics) that unbaptized babies went to purgatory when they died.

Baptizing is one of the holy sacraments of the church, basically it is a holy act. Its like god's bonus points. Along with marriage, confession, communion, etc... The fact that it holds one holy value to you is fine, but others view this act as sacred. I am not a hard-core Christian but who are you or I to judge them? The only true judge is god!

To show God you are willing to follow all of His commandments. It stands as a contract between you and God; He will forgive your sins and you will follow his commandments.

It symbolized the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Christ showed you by example that you should do it.
