I would suggest seeking medical attention when you can. But for now, go to the store and get some Prilosec OTC and read the directions carefully. You can purchase it at Target, Walgreens or a grocery store. I've had the same issues and mine was due to acid reflux or GERD. It just means that your stomach acid is getting up into your esophagus and your throat is swelling because of the acidity. It's very treatable, but you can take Prilosec OTC for the pain now. You may not see immediate results, but in a few days you will feel better. I went to the doctor and got a prescription when it happened to me last year and now I only have issues now and then. I usually take a Zantac before I eat anything spicy because that is what brings mine on. I'm no diagnostician, but this seems like the problem I had. Good luck & I hope this helps! Take care.

Hi!! I know scary a problem like this can be. I am a mom with 2 kids 17 and 13. I have had this happen to me a few different times. My doctor couldn't figure it out. I finally figured it out (in my case). I get a really dry throat and food gets stuck when I have a really bad yeast infection. Search on webmd.com for "Thrush" and "Yeast Infection".

It is important to have a doctor check you over. Remember, they are the experts, the rest of us are just guessing.

Have a big glass of water with you at mealtimes, and drink some to help unstick the food. Drink more in general. A doctor I had a long time ago used to say "Drink lots of water, it's good for just about any illness."

P.S. Soup is good food.

Glad that you are getting checked by a doctor. They may want you to do a barium swallow to test how well things are actually working. If there is a physical abnormality, it would likely show on that test. Also, you may have developed an anxiety about the swallowing problem, and by being so aware of or worried about food getting stuck, it can cause the problem to be worse. Good luck!

Could be something as simple as a swollen throat due to some scratching from something you swallowed a few days ago or you could have had an allergic reaction to something too. Wait until you see the doctor before you do anything. If you have trouble breathing, go to the ER.

Well, are you chewing your food enough? I mean that's pretty obvious, but if you are trying to swallow big chunks then it will be hard. Do you drink lots of water? Maybe your body is really dehydrated. The doctor will know best.

I have swallowing problems too. I have allergicesophagus, a condition in which your throat reacts to certain foods and closes. I don't think you have it, but you might want to ask your doctor about it, just to be sure.

Hope you feel better!
