I will be flying on Delta at the end of this month and was just curious as to what order (after first class is seated), do they call to seat first. I'm seated in the last row of the back and was mainly wanting to know if I will be amongst the first to board.

Passengers in wheel chairs and passengers who need help on the plane will board first (ie. elderly, passengers will babies, etc). Next comes First Class. Delta has a Zone boarding type of system. On your boarding pass, you will see that you are assigned a zone. I believe it goes zones 1-8. They will call out zone 1 first. People may be seated anywhere on the plane. For instance...I could be in zone 1 and be seated in the front, while you could be in zone 1 and be seated in the back. They do this so everyone is crowded in one particular place on the plane. I work as a baggage handler for Delta, so I am quite aware of their boarding process. It is a little different, but, it seems to go pretty smooth. I (and the 49,000 other Delta employees) want to thank you for flying with us :)

I do not know Delta's procedures, but I do know that Northwest airlines did away with the progressive boarding idea and went to general boarding for all flights... They found that it saves up to 30 minutes to have everyone get on and sit down, rather than boarding by rows, where you have a stragler who sits back until the final call and wont board when he is called.... that makes me so mad, just get on the plane...

Delta has this special procedure where your ticket will assign you a number as to when you board. They used to board the back row first. Then they feel this new procedure will work better because this new method has different people in different rows boarding at the same time. So someone sitting the first row of coach may board the same time someone who sits in the back of the plane.
