Marvel Comics is putting out their first Hispanic/Latino comic book series. It's about a group of heroes called "the Santerians," with a leader called "Eleggua." Now, Santeria is a real religion that some real Hispanics (and non-Hispanics, too) practice. Eleggua is the main God--He is to the Santeria pantheon as Zeus is to the Greek.

So. Is this appropriate? Disrespectful? A cool-sounding comic series? A lame-sounding comic series? Or something else altoghether?

My thinking is, it could be lots worse, and Wiccans have endured Harry Potter, after all. But most people don't know anything about Santeria.

Thor is a god with a growing following of serious worshippers. It's called neo-pagan Heathenism or Asatru. Thor is also a comic book character. I doubt Mr.Lee made that connection when he invented Thor. Ancient mythology is the same as ancient theology. From what I can gather from your question, those heroes name themselves for gods and are not, themselves, gods. I would see that as a sign of respect for that god, naming yourself after a god means their characteristics is something your strive for. Many Hispanic children have been named Jesus, does this disrespect or glorify that god's name?

It relies upon on the action picture. i'm only conscious of 3 comedian e book based movies popping out dark knight, Iron guy, and Hulk. i think of they're all superb because of the fact the studio is accustomed to little ones are going to prefer to visual exhibit unit those movies besides as long term comedian e book followers. the videos are generally a pair of important character attempting to alter the international they lived in. In Batman starts Bruce Wayne explains to Alfred that as a guy he could be disregarded yet as an emblem he could be eternal. I watched somewhat some the videos that got here out because of the fact of X-adult men i don't see something that a a million`4yr previous shouldn't see. persons are oversensetive, reason they see comedian e book movies as little ones movies and in the event that they have been to speak approximately crime, corruption, drug sellers they're all up in hands. If there's a action picture relating to the comparable stuff without comedian e book based character you will not hear them complainning. according to possibility the punisher action picture yet he grow to be continually an anti-hero.

I guess the spin off could be, "The Christians" with "Jesus H Christ" as the main hero. Do you think people would be offended by that?

I guess offense is all in the eye of the beholder, and we shouldn't be too concerned with it as all actions offend someone.
