I'm only 31 year's old and am constantly summoned! I've received 11 of them & have already served twice. I've talked to numerous people at the jury duty commission & they keep apologizing & excusing me but I keep on getting them, like a month apart!

I have a home based pet kennel boarding business & I am the only person who runs it. I am single, have only an elderly father and disabled mother in my family, no employees, and 2 friends who have full time jobs. I cannot leave other people's live animals, esp. sick ones requiring medications, alone all day. Not to mention I have business hours 7 days a week which is advertised everywhere, reservations up to a year in advance which I cannot cancel.

I'm at my whits end! What would happen if I simply don't go? Has anyone not gone and what happened to you?

Thanks for your answers BUT I have repeatedly explained my circumstances & am repeatedly excused but am repeatedly recalled!

I live in the largest county in my state too.

Is it my civil duty to serve 11 times when for example some people like my dad who is 70 years old has never even been called let alone served? Is there a glitch in the system?

Who can I contact about this? The jury duty commission obviously isn't enough.

I'm not high on my horse I own a business. (Where in the world are you getting this?) In the summer I am fully booked and have up to 60 animals here at one time. You can't just let 60 animals go without food & cleaning for 8 hours esp. when their owners are paying $20+ a day for exceptional care. I cannot leave them & I haven't been able to take a day off in 2 years. I also have diabetics that need insulin & so on.

I've heard that in some states your exempt if you're self employed & if you've been excused there is a time lapse of 6 months for being recalled. I'm just saying being recalled 3 weeks after being excused seems ridiculous & it's not like I've never gone.

I'd write to my State Representative and file a complaint and let them know how this is disrupting your life because you are self-employed and although you don't mind serving, being called every 3 or 4 weeks is a bit much.

Some states pull names off the voting records while others pull from the voting records and those who have a driver's license. Something wrong in the system if you are getting called that much and others aren't getting called at all. They might not be summoning your father because of his age, although most that age are more than willing to go if they aren't disabled.

If it causes you a real hardship they will usually excuse you from serving jury duty, Most states consider not showing up "Contempt of Court" , punishable by 15 to 30 days in the clink. It can be a hassle but it is your civic duty.

I have been called many times myself.....and sometimes it can be inconvenient.....If I were you I would contact the Chief Judge, contact the media to find out how many times per year can one be called for jury duty.

Good Luck

Unless you have a very good excuse you could well be held in contempt of court and at worst spend a time in gaol. Go and don't be silly but a quiet word with the responsible court official may get the summons withdrawn. Don't get on your high horse

It doesn't sound like you are being really 'excused'. It sounds like you are being postponed. Like if you can't make it this month, then come back next month and see if you can make it. You need to address the jury people again and make sure you are not just being postponed.

you must inform the courts that you keep getting called.
they should only be calling you every 4 years
the deputy commissioner of jurors should be able to help you
there maybe something wrong with there system and the computer likes u
You need to call them it that simple

It's against the law to not go to jury duty, you could be fined for it...I suggest explaining it to them and making a special pardon for you given your special circumstances.

If you don't go, a deputy sheriff will come and get you.
