Hey folks, what do you make of these mothers who kill their children to "save" them in the name of their religion. Such as the one who drowned her kids in the bathtub (her name escapes me)?

Don't you find it a bit odd? Another family of four, today, in Texas found hanging in a closet. Mother and four daughters, all but one dead, an 8-month old is doing well in the hospital.

And how about the preacher that put his baby in a microwave because, as his wife stated "the devil didn't want him to be a preacher." Hmmmm...

Isn't it strange how the majority if not all subscribe to a particular religion?

Thoughts? Comments?

Thanks for refreshing my memory on Andrea Yeats!

Kaliko: I didn't say I affiliated these murderesses with religion, I said that they were, meaning the media. Sorry, will clarify next time I ask a question like this. I am not grasping at straws merely asking an opinion.

Andrea Yates was a very ill woman. She asked for help, but was given none... her schizophrenia went unmedicated while her christian husband insisted she homeschool all of those kids and pray, rather than take medication.

She deserves our empathy and proper medical treatment. There, but by luck, go you and I.

Everyone lost in that situation, and due to christianity, too.

Had it not been for religion, she would have had the proper care she needed and those children would be alive...

It's not that these people are necessarily religious. People who are mentally ill can't find any other explaination for their symptoms. God gets used as a scape-goat way too easily.

I also think you hear about it more in the news media because what makes a better headline?

Mom suffering from post-pardom depression kills kids

or

Mom kills kids claiming God told her to do it.

These days nobody is willing to take responsibility for their own actions. Why do we have so many law suits in the US? Every bad thing in this world is either somebody else's fault or "It's God's fault". Notice nobody ever talks about how great it is that they can wake up in the morning and walk out the door?

It happens in other religions too. The stuff just gets reported more in the US and that makes the odds pretty good that it will be a Christian.

Religious fervor often accompanies mental illness. Not too surprising that you see it. It is almost always a trait of serial killers too.

The thing that bothers me is when someone posts something here that is an obvious sign that they need to talk to a doctor and a lot of Christians encourage them and say they are blessed. That is how it gets out of hand.

There have been many more incidences that did not involve a religious affiliation. there was the mother of two who locked her kids in a car and drove it into a lake, and a father who drowned his kids because his girlfriend didn't like them.

There are "sick" people everywhere and I do not obviously believe it is God's will to harm these children. There are woman who suffer with post partum depression and it has affected them severely.

It is a terrible tragedy, but not one that I personally blame on religion.

Religion is meant for human beings. If they do not behave like human beings any religion will not benefit them.

Even Animals show gratitude and sacrify for their progeny. As
an example; Once the scientist put a mother monkey with her offspring in a close vessal of water . They started filling the water to a level reaching the head of the mother monkey and she lifted her offspring above her head to save it, while she was drowning.

It is a need of the hour that we become human beings and behave to be better than animals.

Thank you.

It's really sad and really SICK! No religion would ask for someone to do stuff like that. I don't care what religion you believe in. I can't believe a mother could take a child's life. I mean there are so many people out there that can't have children that would love to adopt an infant. I guess these mother's are selfish....they don't want anyone to have their child, yet they don't want them either. It's a sick world we live in. I guess you really have to have a disturbed mind to even think of putting a child in the microwave. I heard that and I thought...who the hell would even think to do that? SICK Bastards!

The trajedy's that you listed are so sad and very unfortunate.
If a person got help in dealing with what is going on in their life, these trajedy's may be come less, they may profess a
religion, but the True God Jehovah does not encoourage or
agree to such trajedy's.

I would assume many of these people have mental illnesses to start with. They may 'hear voices' and have had serious issues for years.

By subscribing to a faith it allows them to not feel crazy. They can then say those voices are from God, or from devil, not from the own ill mind. If voraciuosly practice a faith they may then feel they are just receiving revelations from their god.

It is much nicer for someone to think they are having an intimate relationship with their lord that it is for them to think they are crazy. I'm not saying this is the case with all devout people, I am just saying in these types of cases they probably had a previous underlying mental illness which they jdenied and justified through faith.

You can't see those voices.. you can't understand your world... religion can oftentimes help them to explain themselves.

The people today seem to be hurting more and more innocent children.
It doesn't matter whether its religion or just plain screwed up mind sets but people don't seem to care anymore and its the weakest among us who are suffering.
Those under the age of two are being beaten and killed and we as a population need to do something about it right Now!
Help the children they are the ones who truly need it!

These are examples of people that have pschological issues. There are plenty of others out there that don't claim to be religious... however it seems to me only the ones that claim religion are the ones that get the spotlight so the world can ridicule the Christians that are trying to live for the Lord.
