How do you judge a religion? by its teaching and doctrine, or by what wacky people said on Yahoo?
Or you can take up the challenge and read it for self, ask God if it is true and make that choice for your self.
I have read it many times, I find it to be the words of God. the teaching maybe different compare to mainstream christians, but definitely not "wacky.
If you value family values, morality, total marriage commitment, boyscouts, self reliance, no smoking or alcohol and a God that still talk to his people through a prophet, then LDS should not be wacky to you.

What makes the Mormons any more or less "wacky" than any other Christian religion?
There are plenty of nonsensical stories in the Bible that people accept as truth...(Floods, Plagues, Giants, Frogs Raining from Heaven, Water into wine, she-bears eating blasphemous children,..., etc). What makes the Mormon story any more bizarre than the things that most Christians already believe?
Added - The funny thing about this forum is that the Bible is guilty of all of the same things as the Mormons. It contradicts itself over and over, the translations have passed through the hands of numerous corrupt men over time, Christianity as a whole has been guilty of some of the most horrendous atrocities in human history and the various sects as a whole cannot agree on what the Bible actually says. At least the Shiites and Sunnis only argue about Caliphs...

I have read the Book of Mormon many times. (It is the Book of Mormon, not the Book of Mormons. Mormon was the person responsible for compiling the book)
You are right in your explanation that the Book of Mormon tells of Christ's visit to the American continent after his Resurrection. He explained to the people here that they were the "other sheep" that he mentioned (John 10:16) that he would also visit.
You are not correct in thinking that this is a wacky religion, in my opinion. Why is it any wackier than any other religion?
Joseph Smith found this record in a stone box, buried under a large rock in upstate New York. Through the power of God, he was able to translate it into English from an unknown ancient language (suppose to be a form of Hebrew written in reformed Egyptian characters).
If you look at it from a biblical perspective, the story is very plausible.

well think about it, what did Jesus do for three days before he rose from the dead, christians theologians say he went to the bossom of Abraham, the mormons say he went to north America to talk to the nephites and then you have the indians who have their great white spirit in some of their religions, it seems to be true (but any falsehood would). I even read the book three times and had the burning feeling, but I still fell away rom it without even looking at an anti-mormon website, anyone can imgine a burning feeling. And anyone can use witchcraft to write a book. I use to be a witch, you can't believe the things a witch can do. And joseph Smith mom use to be a witch to.

I even have study the Bible each and each of how by, parts of it many times. I desire the OT with the aid of fact it somewhat is in many circumstances in tale format and has not been prettied up as plenty. I even have tried numerous circumstances to study the Koran and have made it by a number of the passages (sirrah?). It rambles so and keeps taking breaks to undergo Allah, so it does not carry my interest very properly. I even have been instructed that the interpretation I even have won't be between the greater useful ones. nevertheless I even have not study the e book of Mormon, I even have study comparisons on Mormon, Catholic, Protestant, and Jehovah's Witness denominations with some quotations. upload: Oh, yeah. i'm additionally working my way for the time of the Message (a action picture). it is the story of Mohammad (saws)written and directed by potential of a non secular Muslim. nevertheless Mohammad (saws) never seems in the action picture (taboo against graven pictures) the author of the action picture became into concentrated by potential of numerous minor Jihads. Of exciting notice is that he filmed the action picture concurrently in English and Arabic using an identical contraptions whilst changing a number of the actors.

Wacky is a gross understatement. You are just scratching the surface. Joseph Smith was the biggest conman in American History. The more I learn about the LDS, the more entertaining it gets to me.
Heres a good look at their true nature from History.
This one happened 150 years ago but I think its still relevant because Mitt Romneys church pardoned a terrorist mass murderer of Americans in 1960 and now Romney is running for President.
MOUNTAIN MEADOWS MASSACRE !!
It was September 11, 1857. A wagon train of 160 settlers on their way to California was massacred by a bunch of Mormons dressed in Indian clothes. 17 children under the age of 8 were spared and lived to tell their story.
1st. They dressed as Indians but after five days they changed tactics.
2nd. Then they went a bit away ,dressed back into normal clothes and acted like the Rescue Party who had negotiated a deal with the"Indians".
3rd, Then confiscated all the guns as part of the deal for "saving" the travellers and Mormon dissidents( who were the reason for the attack in the first place).
4th. Took everybody off a mile or so and shot them all. 2 men got away but were eventually tracked down and killed a day or so later.
5th. Took the 17 children they had not killed back with them to Salt Lake City.
6th. Got away with it. After a publicized trial, with the childrens own testimony admitted into the court, only 1 man was convicted and shot, John D. Lee. ( pardoned by Church 1960)
It ended up being called the Mountain Meadows Massacre. The first time in U.S. history that U.S. citizens were massacred on U.S. soil by religious wackos. This event is even more significant because the total U.S. population at the time was much smaller.(I dont know the exact numbers, maybe only 30 million or so) In todays numbers it would be around 1400 dead

I believe that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that it is true. I believe that through divine inspiration Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon. I encourage you to read it and decide for yourself. There is a promise at the end, that God will testify the truth to you. Read Moroni 10:4-5 (the last book in the book of Mormon). You can even get a free copy of the book from the Churches website:

I have read it. No I do not think it is a wacky religion. I think the Book of Mormon is inspired by God. Try reading it yourself and make up your own mind. I personally couldn't imagine a guy with a 6 grade education being able to make something up that is so historically comparable with the Bible in about 6 months time. He couldn't even compose a well written letter, much less this record. That's what made me interested in reading it. Try it and ask God for yourself if it is true. If you really want to know, He'll tell you.

You have received some good responses and a lot of ignorant ones. You obviously have not read The Book of Mormon, nor pondered its message. If you had, and followed the challenge given in Moroni 10:3-5, you would know that there was more to it than you had imagined. Joseph Smith only attended 3 years of formal education. The rest of his education came from being taught to read from the Bible at home and whatever else was taught in a typical farm family. He was not a charlatan, nor a deceiver. What he produced was the direct result of inspiration from God. There are no inconsistencies in the Book of Mormon if you truly understood the context of that record when compared to the Bible. If you don't understand the Bible, then you will not understand how it testifies of The Book of Mormon and vice versa. I have studied both volumes of scripture all my life and know that they are both sources of God's word to His children. Just because there is one volume of scripture, you need not suppose that it is the only word of God in existence. The Book of Mormon neither adds to nor detracts from the information contained in the Bible. It is another testament of Jesus Christ. It is additional scripture. The history it describes is different from the history contained in the Bible. Nevertheless, they treat the same subject, namely, the mission of Jesus Christ to the children of God, namely all of us.
There is nothing wacky about it. If you cannot accept the notion of continuing revelation, that God still speaks to His children and to His prophets, then you will never understand The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or The Book of Mormon. Your mind is clouded and cannot comprehend the light of the Gospel.
I apologize for my bluntness. I have received revelation in my life and no that it is true.
I leave that witness with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
