Losing or gaining weight can be attributed to calories consumed, and calories burned. Yes you can lose weight by ONLY dieting or ONLY exercising.
How MANY calories you burn is determined on the activity, length of activity AND your current weight AND muscle mass so with lack of your personal information it's difficult to answer....
Here's a scenario:
First of all, 3,500 calories= 1 lb
Let's say you consumer 2,000 calories a day on average and you weigh 150lbs. If you walk/jog about 30 minutes a day, you'll probably burn about 230 calories. This calculates to:
230 calories x 7 days= 1610 calories burned a week, which means a loss of about 1/2 lb for the week. This is why reducing your diet and exercising is ideal for more effective health and weightloss.
Anyways, you can go to this site:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/calories.htm
Type in your weight, exercise activity, and time for exercise, and it will approximate how many calories burned during the exercise.
There's also a GREAT FREE site called www.sparkpeople.com . You can log what you eat, and it calculates how many calories consumed, and log what exercises you complete, and calculates how many calories burned....it's a great way to track weightloss.

Not much. Ive been running 20-25 miles a week for 4 months, kept the diet the same ,and even elimated things, and have only lost 3 lbs. Running doesnt burn as much as you think. However it would depend on your current size.

You say you wish to lose forty kilos, so I'll simply anticipate you weigh like one hundred eighty lbs. A character weighing one hundred eighty lbs, strolling, three.five mph, stage, brisk, organization floor, strolling for recreation: ninety four energy burned in 30 minutes. You subtracted one hundred energy, so that is a whole of 194 energy. Assuming you're now in a deficit of 194 energy, you would lose a pound each and every 18-22 days. I'd truthfully attempt to reduce like 2 hundred-three hundred energy in step with day if viable.

you would probably maintain your current weight. You have to burn more calories than you take in to lose weight.
