I'm a light-skinned African-American and I love the fact that black people all have different shades of skin. Makes us stand out and be individuals, we don't all look the same. I personally really love dark skinned men, but that's my personal preference. Being a light-skinned person I've gotten comments about my color from darker skinned people and sometimes you may feel they're jealous, but usually its not a problem. We as a people have been brainwashed to think that the closer you are to white skin the better you are. That's just the way our culture has become, its been going on for generations now actually. We've been raised to believe that the lighter you are and straighter your hair is, that makes you more like white people, making you better than the darker skinned people.

Yes I think this is true and having white ancestry yes I am lighter-skinned and this is very true alot of my family members are even treated with better respect then others because of their complexion. I also find that out growen up in an all white school too with only 4 other black people their. My sister and I were treated alot better then the darker girls that were going to that school too.

No that is not true. In slave times the light skinned slaves were usually the masters children and where put to work in the house and told they were better than the other slaves to prevent them from helping them get free or revolt against the master. I come from a family of light brown people and have been treated badly by dark skinned people because they thought that I thought I was better but that is not true I love everyone and I love darker skin..........Lets get rid of this myth so that we can as a people learn to love our diversity!

many African Americans in fact believe that lighter skinned Africans are more attractive then darker skinned or even albino looking blacks. of course these light skinned people have allowed it to go to their head, and that is why some act a little conceited

YES IT IS TRUE
and what's worse is that many African-americans value lighter-skinned individuals and treat them better

it probably rises from times of slavery when ight-skinned slaves didn't have to work outside in the fields and were allowed to work inside of a slave master's home...thus receiving superior treatment

You know - I would never have believed this but a very close friend of mine - African American told me once that his grandparents forced his parents to stop having children because each one was darker. He was the youngest and last. I thought he was BSing me but convinced me that it is absolutely true. He told me that lighter blacks look down on darker blacks. Seems totally insane to me - but then I am caucasian and can't really comprehend the experience or feelings.

that's no longer what he stated, he stated the traditional American could vote for a easy skinned person over a darker skinned one. And he's terrific. He replaced into speaking of human beings prejudice, no longer his own thoughts.

Light skin is definitely coveted. African American individuals tend to have heaver features, lips, nose, etc. In our culture, beauty is basely defined as the symmetry of features, but delicate features and paler skin seem to be more attractive than very dark complexions. I personally find extremely dark skin fascinating.

Personally no ... buy that is a result of my socialization. I happen to be of mixed ancestry .Some folks ,however, do believe "lighter the better " because of internal racism . They were taught it by past generations who were victims of slavery, racism and prejudice.
