Apparently a lot of progress is being made with adult stem cells and hopefully this will lead to many cures. Embryonic stem cells do not have the same success in spite of the misinformation fed to us by the press.
Cheers :-)

Stem cells have the capability to develop into any kind of cell. While the person is alive, stem cells have replenishing and healing abilities and can specialize in more than one function. The goal of stem cell research is to repair damaged cells that can advance medical care.
Stem cells have the potential to treat neurological diseases that effect the brain and spine for years to come. It has been found that the use of stem cells are able to treat such disease as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. These undifferentiated cells can change the forefront of medicine. It can be determined that through this great research that an abundant of medical treatments will arise that help in the healing of biological errors that cause such terminal diseases.
My uncle had four stem cell transplants during his fight against Multiple Myeloma. It was these treatments that gave him four great years that he wouldn't be able to experience without them. His health took a dramatic turn after each one. He was no longer throwing up or weak from the chemotherapy that once ruled his life. Stem cells can change the lives of people who are consumed with these crippling diseases. Our society can benefit greatly with the use of stem cells.

Well I think everyone needs to hear the entire truth regarding Stem Cell research. Then the debate will be fair.
There are two main kinds of stem cell research.
The one that is under fire and that I am opposed to uses Embryonic stem cells. They actually create a human embryo for the purpose of killing it for the stem cells. That is completely wrong. I don't care what kind of good results come from it. We need to protect human life, and creating life simply to turn around and kill it is just not right. Lots of bad could come from that- the negatives outweigh the positives.
The other more ethical kind uses adult stem cells. They take stem cells from adults much like they take blood from adults. The stem cells can be extracted from fat cells. It is my understanding that they can do just as much with these Adults stem cells as they can with Embryonic cells- and there is no killing innocent humans in this method.
I am not opposed to Adult stem cell research I would like to see more of it
Edit***
Since when did America start doing things just because other countries do? Don't we teach our children not to do things simply because someone else is? I think that is called Peer Pressure.

My hubby was diagnosed with Diabetes this morning. Have you read the article where they took a group of people, and using (not fetus, but the individuals own) stem cells, and a low dose chemotherapy, they killed their white blood count, reintroduce the stem cells which regrew as FUNCTIONAL white blood cells that don't attack the pancreas, and the person was CURED of diabetes once the pancreas was repaired?!! I hope they offer this as a treatment soon, even if it's just on an experimental level. I say all forms of Stem Cell research are well worth the effort, and if they can cure even one disease such as Parkinson's, Lou Garret's altzeimers, or Diabetes, it's more than worth it.

I'm for it. But I also don't want to compel people to pay (with tax money) for something that they see as immoral. I guess that since it is legal, just not government sponsored, I am OK with the current policy.
But the funny thing here is the stuff that has been working has almost entirely been with adult cells and that is wide open. Really there shouldn't be a big argument because the grants are going toward the more promising research lines anyhow.

Do you know the Catholic Church's position on this?
It is FOR stem Cell research as long as they do not kill live children to get it.
Adult stem cell and umbilical cord stem cell research is FINE!
Almost no (or no) developments have ever come from infant stem cells anyway.
Good luck with your diabetes, I wish you the very best!
Peace!

Other countries are ahead of the US now in this field, and many others due to fanatical religious beliefs. We NEED stem cell research. Stem cells are babies that never would have lived anyway, and with the research, comes the possibility of saving millions of people who already are living, and have people that care about them.

There is stem cell research going on now. Just not embryonic.
However, Advanced Cell Tech. has figured out a way to get embryonic stem cells without hurting the embryo. This could be helpful. We will see.

With just a touch more religious power in America, the evangelical Christan movement will catapult this once great country into an economically and socially depressed theocracy.
(I'm assuming my opinion on stem cells is obviously discernible)
