No. Ultrasound is a non-invasive test that uses sound waves to image the body. There are few, if any, contraindications to ultrasound imaging.

You're good.

Now for the correct answer. I believe you are referring to theraputic ultrasound like the type given by a chiropractor or physical therapist. Yes in the case of an artifical knee the metal will heat up from the energy of the sound waves and this type of treatment is never given with an implant. If you are talking about diagnostic ultrasound like the type used in pregnancy or to look for gallstones then there would be no problem. Just keep the energy away from the artifical knee.

Ultrasound generally is not contraindicated to any condition. But what benefit it would gain to do an ultrasound to total knee replacement?

THERAPEUTIC ultrasound should not be used over areas with joint cement from surgery or over plastic or metal implants.

However, if you are having a DIAGNOSTIC ultrasound in a peripheral vascular laboratory (PVL), these studies are noninvasive procedures that use special ultrasound techniques to view veins and arteries. This ultrasound procedure can locate thrombi (clots), aneurysms (dilations or bulges), stenoses (strictures), and flow disorders. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk after any major surgery, but PATIENTS WHO HAVE SURGERY OF THE LEGS OR HIPS ARE AT HIGHER RISK. DVT can pose a serious threat to health. Pieces of a clot can break off and travel through the bloodstream to the lungs. This is called a pulmonary embolism (PE) and can be fatal soon after it occurs. DVT can also block blood flow in the veins, causing the blood to pool. This can cause swelling, pain, and permanent damage to the leg called post-thrombolic syndrome.
