Go here http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/stats.asp and look at the second chart - the one that shows interest by brand name. The best brands are indeed the ones in the top part of the chart. And vice versa.

Here's a listing in order by ratings. You can pick out the "better brands" from this chart.

Another good rule. Even if you don't buy from them, check with B&H Photo (available through Yahoo! Shopping). If B&H does not sell the brand you are looking at, don't bother buying that brand.

Please post a new question. Tell us how much you want to spend, what you plan to use the camera for most of the time, and what your prior experience is with photography. With this information, we will be much more helpful to you.

In my opinion the Canon Rebel series is the best things around. I have one of these cameras and I'm completely happy with it. You can exchange the lenses on it for different types of photos (long range, wide angle, etc). It's 8 Megapixel (I think the new ones are 10 megapixel) which means you can blow the pictures you take on it up to poster size without them being pixelated or look fuzzy and it is VERY simple to operate. They are a little on the expensive side, around $800 but they are worth every penny. Plus Consumer Reports rated them as a "Best Buy".

There really is no general "best" digital camera. Every camera has plusses and minuses. What anyone looking for a digital camera needs to look at is what features best meet your needs. That's the camera to go with, and for that person that is the best camera for them.

For me, when I made the move from film to digital, since I already had a number of Nikkor lenses for my film cameras, it made sense to stay with Nikon. I bought a D200 and love it.

nicely, it relies upon on what form of digicam you're searching for i assume? If it truly is a DSLR or equivalent, then you definately shouldn't flow incorrect with the two Canon, Nikon, Olympus, pentax or Konica Minolta. For the mid-selection (so referred to as prosumer) sequence, i might propose the comparable plus sony, fujifilm, kodak etc etc For shopper/get admission to point standards, any of the above manufacturers might desire to be high-quality. extra importantly, you will possibly probable ask your self what your standards are until now choosing a variety/variety. this might comprise: a million. form of batteries (AA vs committed rechargables) 2. form of memory used. Do you have latest CF/SD/MS enjoying cards etc you may re-use? 3. How huge are you printing - would be sure the megapixels you like. 4. Optical zoom - how plenty is adequate? 5. particular good factors - do you like direct connectivity with printers (picbridge?), climate evidence (olympus has some), upload-ons? etc etc.

I'm with Kads. I'm pretty impressed with the Fujis. Not the cheaper A-series, but the F-series and the S-series cameras.

Other than that, Panasonic does a terrific job. Great leica lenses!

Leica. Nice overall color. Olympus' tends towards blue or green, and takes a little more color correction. Of course, it could be my cataract lenses have shifted my 'spectrum'.
