Who said anything about it being right? I don't think right or wrong is really on these people's minds.

If you are talking about therapists, counselors or psychiatrists "getting rich" from other people's problems, I can totally understand where you're coming from. I used to feel the same way when I was a teenager. I thought that my counselor would have no interest in helping me get better, since my problems were providing her with a paycheck.

However, it's a very egocentric way to view it. With the exception of psychiatrists, who make pretty good money, most therapists make much less money than someone in another field with an equal amount of education. Also, you have to remember that therapists do not depend on people having problems to have a job. Unfortunately, there is enough suffering in the world that we don't need to worry about it ever running out to the point where no one would need a therapist anymore.

Despite my dislike for therapists, I entered the field of psychology and am now a therapist myself. I do it because I enjoy working with people, helping people grow, and seeing people fix themselves after hardship and trauma. I am far from rich; I do it because I enjoy the interaction with people and because I'm good at what I do.

If Im developing a cure for some screwed up disease people have and I get rich off the medicine then its all good. In the sense that I would have never gotten rich if these people werent sick in the first place, I have successfully and morally gotten rich from other people's suffering and pain.

Psychiatrists and psychologists have had many years of school, training and experience to help people with mental health problems. It is a fact that doctors make a lot of money. If these doctors make a lot of money off of peoples pain and suffering, but they are helping them to cope, accept and understand, they are earning their big salaries.

In a way, nearly everything anyone does causes SOMEONE pain and suffering in some way, don't you think?

The people who are paid to help those who are in pain - doctors, nurses, etc. - deserve every penny they earn. There are some bad apples in every profession, but most health care workers work very long hours that takes them away from their family and friends to provide care for those of us who require it.

If someone is losing their house because they cannot make the payments remember someone is going to benefit from their hardship. As long as someone will, then that someone might as well be you. Don't ever cause someone hardship of any kind for your benefit but don't shy away from benefiting from their already existing problem.
