I believe God is loving, caring, & compassionate as well as (for lack of a better word) vengeful when necessary.

That being said, if someone were to take their own life, do you think that God would not consider the circumstances that lead to it, instead of the act itself? I'm asking for your interpretation or your gut instinct. I think there's a difference btwn someone who kills themselves b/c they're in debt or going to jail, etc., & someone who suffers from depression & feels unworthy to live.

Life isn't perfect, I know. And it really shouldn't be. Only Heaven is. Experiencing struggles & pain is a part of life. But I'm just curious what you as a Christian feel in your heart would happen to a depressed person who commits suicide.

Thanks for any replies.

Let me scratch "Thanks for any replies".

Thanks for any intelligent replies. It's pathetic to see some use my question so they can attack Christians or Christianity.

I've always wondered about this. I'm glad you asked this question.
I wonder if God has mercy on them. You know what I mean?
Maybe you may get some "good" replies of other people's opinions. I'm not sure myself.

Have a great day!

First of all, I thank God that I've never experienced any sort of depression! Before I answer the above question I'd like to tell you why I thank god for this. I'm sure that the reason for this is because I study the bible daily and even though it's an extremely old book it's principles are the best guidelines even in our days.
Now in the begining God made Adam and Eve as 'perfect humans' but we all know the story. They disobeyed the one forbidding law that God asked of them. I know you already know this but here's my point. The bible says, or teaches that God's primary purpose was for the human beings to fill the earth, be peaceful and live for ever. Do you know what happened to Adam and Eve? They died, and most importantly with out God's favor or aproval. My point is, for being disobedient Adam and Eve los t their perfect lives and the strong relationship they had with God. God's law in the bible is Thou shall not kill. Suicide is killing, killing is going against what God asks of you.
The bible also teaches that God is giver of life. Death is the opposite of life therefore why would he except you if you practice something that he dislikes, or something he is against?

I believe in those cases that God is compassionate to the person who committed suicide. While we in the 21st century know that depression (and other mental illnesses) is a chemical imbalance in the brain and not possession by demons, I do believe it is possible for Satan or evil spirits to use that physical problem against the person suffering from it. I don't want to come out and say that spirits truly possess the person, but I think they can be beaten down to the point where they just give up and take their own life. I don't know that God doesn't hold them accountable for their actions, but I believe that He forgives those actions. I hope my explanation is clear because I'm having a little trouble putting my thoughts into words.

Only God knows the heart. So many people suffer from mental illness w/ depression etc. and I believe many people are not in their right mind when commiting such an act. I know that God has mercy for those sad sad individuals. I still think it is a sin to take life, however, in this case I believe it is a forgivable sin.

This is a hard question. Cause it can go either way. One God knows our hearts better than anyone else does. Two the bible says he will never put more on us than we can handle. But, then u look at how much mental problems did this person have? The only thing I can truly say to this is, pray for your friends soul or who ever it is. I am sorry I wasn't much help.

There is only one unforgivable sin in the Bible, and that is Blaspheming against the Holy Spirit.

Do Christians struggle with pain, suffering and meaninglessness? Absolutely.

Do Christians get depressed? Absolutely

Do Christians committ suicide? Absolutely, although interestingly enough, religious faith is one of the FEW protective factors against suicide, statistically...

Is suicide a forgivable sin? Absolutely, as are all sins except one.

Remember that depression and suicidal thinking derive in part from biology, but also very clearly from non-bioligical factors as well. The important thing to remember is that God is merciful.

I think you will find your best answer from the pastor of a trusted local church. Find a church that you know you can trust, and call and ask for an appointment with someone on the counseling staff or pastoral staff, and I'm sure they would be happy to talk with you, not just out of their opinion, but also give you Bible verses to back up their answers. I don't know why you're asking, but I will pray you look to a trusted church to get the help you need.
I have to say I am astounded at the people who say depressed people are weak minded. How uncompassionate and judgemental, not at all in the the true spirit of our merciful God. It has been shown that there are chemical imbalances that cause depression. Whose to say that the anti-depressants weren't created with the help of God. God brings us help in earthly forms. Only he knows about our intentions and inner struggles and only he will knows who will or will not make it into the Heaven. Please find a compassionate church to help you with this.

I don't think god deals in absolutes. I don't think God is limited to only one judgment for each offense. Take a person who is very old and has had a full life. They are diagnosed with a terminal illness that will degrade their body making them helpless and requiring expensive life support that their family can't afford to maintain. They will also feel greater and greater pain till they must be put on morphine to prevent them from screaming themselves silent. This will go on till they eventually die after months of agony and there is no cure. Are they a monster if they decide to stop taking their heart medication or something and cause their own death?
Do you honestly think a compassionate wise god couldn't recognize extenuating circumstances?
The same with one who is mentally ill and not responsible for their actions. But sometimes people commit suicide because they simply give up or are too impatient to solve their problems. Sometimes they use death to evade their responsibilities and leave their family to sort out the mess of their lives without regard for the people who cared for them. In that case it is nearly the most selfish act imaginable. Why would god reward that?

God knows everything. Nothing is hidden from God. That include the feelings, experiences and thoughts of each and every person in this world.

God gives fair chances and equal opportunities to save ourselves. Given the psychological problem, we can never fathom the infinite mercy of God regarding how He would deal with cases like this.
