Because they're both deluded.
Obviously at least one of them is, if the phrase "guided by the Holy Spirit" has any definite meaning at all. And how do you decide which? By volume? Is there a Holy Spirit litmus test?
That's really the whole problem of religion in a nutshell. Whichever dogmatic cult you choose, you're putting all your eggs in that basket; every other cult in the world, even within the same tradition, is implicitly a sham. "Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life - MY Jesus, I mean - not yours!"
For instance - many "Christians" would argue that there IS a "Holy Spirit litmus test" - the Bible, of course. "Which one -if any-has the doctrines that are Scriptural?" Of course, that all depends on one's interpretation of Scripture, doesn't it? We can record the inspired ramblings of Christian A and Christian B and then see which, if either, jibes with our own cult's particular dogma; but then, settling on B, we find that another cult has endorsed A - and to the nonpartisan onlooker, there's not much to choose between our respective positions, even though we may be ready to kill each other over the differences.

The Holy Spirit is not of this world. It indwells the believer and works upon them. Now if there are 2 people with opposite thoughts, then the Spirit is working on each INDIVIDUALLY.

Because the Holy Spirit doesn't lead everybody to witness in the same way. We are individuals and God has a plan for EACH of our lives.
Also, we have to be sure it is truly the Holy Spirit speaking to us. Do their "thoughts" fall in line with the word of God?
If the two people are husband & wife and they are hearing opposite messages, then they need to seek God in prayer because ONE of them is most likely going with desires of the flesh.

Good question
There are over 20,000 sects of Christianity, most believe they are on the only true path and are the only ones receiving the holy spirit

That's always the problem we have. Our pride gets in the way and we are all sometimes deceived by our interpretation. That is why you have to have your interpretation validated by others who can test if you are being deceived.
As individuals we can take a passage out of context or interpret it to believe what we want using rationalization. Effectively, if everyone sets himself up as the ultimate authority and they are their own "pope", then their is no unity in their church.
We need to refer to the Founding Fathers of the church and seek out the experience that our elder brothers and sisters can provide. If someone who is a "disinterested" party agrees with you, then you are on the right track. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourself.
It happens to all of us if we are not careful.

christians kill other christians, just because the other christians didn't believe the way the other christians believed...
Here's how to eliminate christianity and religion from YourLife and to begin Your journey back home, to Heaven, where the christians can't go:
Create a Private, Personal, Direct, Divine Relationship with Our Creator and save your Soul from religion's and atheist's beliefs.
<<<<<<<<<<< L O V E >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Love and Believe in Our Creator;
Love and Believe in Yourself.
Only with Our Creator's Love and Peace will we be Truly Free!
Without God, there is No Love; Without religion, there are No Wars!
"religion is Spiritual fraud"; "religion is the Worse invention of humanity" - Jesus Christ, Buddha and any one else with Spiritual intelligence.
atheists = all the people in religion = all the ignorant fundamentalists = all the cults/superstitions = paganism = wicca

The Holy Spirit is either guiding just one, or neither.
One of them is mis-led.

Because the holy spirit is not external, it is internal. Our own spirit guides us to the best of our human ability. Which is not perfect.

I'm not a Christian, but perhaps it's analogous to how Charles Mingus can sound so different from Kenny G, yet both play "jazz". Something to think about.
