Do you consider it a request for thumbs-down, and oblige them?
Or do you consider it a persecution complex and try to avoid reinforcing it?

depends on what their view says. If I think it's thumbsdown worthy I will give them a thumbsdown.

You'll probably give me a thumbs down for saying this, but I usually give a thumbs down to those who start off by saying you'll give them a thumbs down.

It doesn't affect me one way or the other. If an answer is really off base then I will thumbs down, or if its good I thumbs up.
Personally I like to tell people in some of my answers that I will know I will get a thumbs down and thanks in advance because I collect them! LOL

I only thumbs down if it is a truely mean or idiotic response... or if they clearly are trying to set a thumbs down record...
