I just sang at a friends wedding this weekend and wore a white dress that had pink flowers on it with black trim. I know you are not supposed to wear all white to a wedding but I thought printed dresses were alright. Did I committ a fashion crime?

Well, you most definitely violated the white rule. Even if the dress is patterned, white is always off limits. It's the bride's color and she's supposed to stand out over everyone else (because it's her day). But, if no one commented on your dress choice, then you are probably fine. Because it had black trim, too, it's not as bad as a solid white dress!

I doubt very much that Joan and Melissa Rivers nor any other major fashion critics were in the crowd scoping out what all were wearing....
I think the fact that it had some color/print on it you were just fine. I myself may have been a little more worried if it were say SOLID white...but I'm sure you were fine!
I have to say that I totally disagree w/danielleb above(sorry girl!)...I've been to MANY upper class weddings in which it was a totally black and white wedding in which the guests were all to wear black and/or white, I've seen the mothers of the bride and/or groom where white, as well as grandmothers, I've been to weddings where the wedding planner/host wore white w/a splash of color. There's not really such strict "rules" anymore....if brides are allowed to now acceptably wear pink, black, red, lavendar, peach...etc, for thier gown color - then why can't others wear white?

I don't think so, as long as the dress was a floral print dress with a white background rather than a white dress with some flowers, if that makes any sense.
I think it would also depend on the style of the dress. As long as it wasn't too fancy, I think it should be fine.

Traditions really dont matter anymore. People get married in black, red and pink - practically any colour wedding dress. I dont see why it is any harm to be a guest and wear a white floral dress. I think you would have looked pretty and summery!

You know.........I just don't understand this whole Bridezilla, uptight, you can only wear certain things to my wedding mentality. Lighten up. Wanna wear white to my wedding? Be my guest. Just know that it's going to accentuate the fact that I look a helluva lot better than you do. The only thing I care about is my fiancee and the officiant showing up, everything else is secondary.

even if you did, why bother. it has passed so no point thinking about it now. just make sure next time you don't wear any white and you won't commit any fashion crime.

Otherwise, a printed floral dress is fine. Anyone who fusses is just being a prune.

I certainly wouldn't have worn that, but I'm a guy and people would talk. Nevertheless, white is supposed to be for the bride alone.
It's too late now, Show Stealer. Just don't do it next time, if anyone even asks you to sing at THEIR wedding.
