It is art. Art is a form of expression, even if it's been commercialized, packaged and sold like hotcakes. I believe the rap culture is very strong. I'm sure it's probably not a very good image, or a good impact, but there are few (like Common and Outkast, among others) that come to my mind who try to make a huge impact on African-American society, urging kids to try and not get caught up in gangs, try to get an education and leave drugs out of the picture.

Rappers are not culture, it is not art, they only hurt the african american image. Young african americans look to rappers and try to act like them and end up widening the black white education and income gap. Its horrible, rappers hurt society. Then when african americans have less education and have a worse income, they only complain instead of trying to better themselves. rappers use the "n" word and then they complaing when others use the "n" word who aren't black. Did you see that TV special where that rapper said he wouldn't snitch on a serial killer even if he lived next to him and knew he was killing people? Thats the kind of thing rappers promote, looking fly, not snitching, not getting an education, and using the "n" word, raping, violence, and drugs

I avoid Rap like the plague. Its not art (or music), it may reflect some culture, or it may create a culture or fad. I find it useless. It's just people playing to the dollar.
