Do you think that God wants your only source of knowledge to come from one book?

Well the Christian god certainly doesn't. The first sin was eating fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. Isn't that about the most anti-intellectual thing you can come up with?

See, that would make sense, because god would want you to know about it's creation as it is, not as it's imagined to be. Therefore, everything this god would say would be consistent with the evidence as found in it's creation. No need to interpret anything to make it fit, it would simply hold true through all testing conducted by anyone anywhere at any time. Anything less than that is pure falsification. Truth is true and self evident in all creation, and it does not originate in any one area. All people have knowledge of the earth, some more than others, but all have experienced it and have knowledge to pass on to our collective understanding of the world as it exists.

Consider the other sources of education. I will share only one story. While backslidden from Jesus I dated a Wiccan priestess who worked at Auburn University in the audio visual department. She made all of her life decisions from animal totem spirit card readings that she bought from a local new age shop for ten dollars. She is well respected and her favorite past time is converting Christians. But it seems that if you are on staff at Auburn University then you must be teaching the truth. She is believed without question. I will personally stick with the teaching of the Holy Spirit and the tried and proven word of GOD.

No.

Paul in his writings commands that while he is in prison to have his books brought to Him. We learn through reading.

There are too many Christians out there today who need to read more about Christianity, because they basically make all Christians seem uneducated and ignorant.

I am in no way a smart individual when it comes to things, but I read to gain more knowledge. God wants us to be educated in more than just Christianity, also.

God gave us a brain and wants us to expand our knowledge. We can learn a lot from others writings, or actions.

But at some point, what we learn from books or from other people needs to be put into practice.

There is a time to refocus from learning, to doing. And as long as the "doing" is not against the Bible, God will bless our efforts to develop the mind that He gave us.

I believe in God, so I will give you my answer. God gave us the bible to know Him and how to live the way He wants us to. He encourages learning other things, but we should know what the Truth is so if we read or hear something that is wrong, we will know it. God doesn't condemn knowledge, as long as learning it doesn't make us forget the knowledge of His word. He also put us here to serve a purpose, and if you are pursuing His purpose for you, it is great.

There are many passages in the Bible that state that man's knowledge is foolish. And that earthly scholars don't know God because they are ignorant, so I interpret that as God not wanting man to be educated.

Of course it makes me wonder why he gave us the capacity to be critical and why he would offer free will in the first place. Unless it was to deceive a large amount of humans to hell.

The knowledge base has expanded and I think that come in many ways by Divine intervention--learning is the basis of personal growth. Knowing Gods words are important--living Jesus in our lives is even more important. A career should have no effect on you Christianity. However, Christianity may have an effect on your career.

Yes I think god would encourage learing of knolege though education. I think god wants humans to grow speritualy and reach enlightenment. No god dosen't want all of your information to come from one source, if he did he would have only ever sent one prophet, and there have been several phrophets...
Do some research on progressive revolation...

Reading through all these answers reminds me of the 'Parable of the Tares'... you remember, the weeds and the wheat? That's why God put the 'delete' button on my computer...so I could share the Joy of blotting out things from under Heaven! (May He continue with his merciful editing!)
Personally I'm glad I read those books, watched those movies, and heard the news and teacher's speaches. I could have missed out on so many prophesies coming true in front of my very eyes!
