I agree with you in theory - if I wanted 3 husbands and they were willing to go along with it, whatever.
However, the cost for spousal inclusion in insurance could really dammage small business owners. Remember, as much as we talk about marriage as a religious institution, it is primarily a legal contract with tax filing, insurace, inheritance and decision-making ramifications. There would be a LOT of legal wrangling to iron out all of the problems with a marriage that inluded more than two people. Which spouse would make end-of life decisions for an incapacitated spouse? Who would inherit without a will? Can they all file jointly? If the man dies, are the wives still married to each other?

The unethical aspect of the situation is threefold:
1. Polygamy as found in the Bible and Quran is always one guy, multiple women. That man is always in charge. The women are practically slaves. That is male chauvinism at its peak.
2. Having three girlfriends is MUCH different than having three wives. Marriage is a legal contract, and often involves children. It creates a competitive environment. It creates a situation that is virtually impossible to be financially and emotionally fair. This is not a good environment to raise children in.
3. Throw on top of all that the fact that the world is made up of 51% women, 49% men, the ratio is so close to perfect that you don't want to mess it up with polygamy. It is hard enough as it is for most people to find that special someone.
The truth of the matter is that those three girlfriends of Hugh Hefner are not doing themselves much of a service sharing him. Seems pretty obvious that it is all about the money, thus making that a really bad example.

People forget that the institution of marriage is a legal matter. It can additionally be religious OR secular. As for why the law is set up so that you can only be legally married to one person, I don't know. Probably because, at least here in the US, it was made when polygamy was (and it still is) socially unacceptable. In other cultures where it's not a social problem, it typically isn't a legal problem either.

Hugh Hefner is a sinner, so it really doesn't matter how many girlfriends he has. If he doesn't repent of his decadent lifestyle, he's destined to death. That is, eternal separation from God. True christians know that polygamy is not God's will for us, so there's no need to discuss it any further. What consenting adults do is only relavent, when it's in line with God's word.

"Satan needs illegitimate children to propagate The Trinity concept so marriage of 4 women is illegal but adultery with 4 women is not punished"
Ben: you are a moron. Yet another shining example of the fact that stupid people are reproducing faster than intelligent ones. What about the children who are born illegitimately but adopted by married couples? They are no longer illigitimate. Also, children are innocent of their creation. Didn't your Jesus say "let the little children come to me" He didn't clarify with only those born to married people. You really need to move SLOWLY away from the computer and lie down before you do something stupid, like forget to breathe.

It is not ok to have more than one wife in the Bible. It says (Genesis 2:19-25) to sum it up, when God made Adam he said, verse 23 (after making Eve from Adams ribs) "This is the bone of my bones, and the flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman' for she was taken out of man." 24:For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united (married) to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

I would consider Hugh Hefner's girlfriends more or less his concubine. Even King David had concubines. What I would have issue with is why he would show off his beautiful concubines to the world.

This is religious control of man's actions that somehow became part of law. All adults should be able to live life as they see fit without oppressive laws or beliefs of a religion as long as is doesn't infringe on others freedoms or rights.
One day man and woman will be totally free to live their life as they see fit.

It is not okay. In the bible it does say that a man should have one wife. In the OT we see several men who had several wives and concubines and we have to put that into context and understand that that was their culture. The bible may be the Word of God, but it ministers to us by example. In every single book of the bible we see examples of people who sinned. It is clearly written in the bible that premarital sex is wrong and that a man should leave his parents and cleave to his wife(one wife). It is really sickening to see how society condones this lifestyle of H.H.'s. Him and his girlfriends are looked up to and almost worshiped and yet they are truly living a sick, sinful lifestyle.

To whom is it OK with?
The original marriage in the Bible was with one man, Adam and one woman, Eve.
Remember all the problems that the polygamists encountered in Biblical times--Solomon took up worshiping other gods--David committed adultery and murder--these are just a couple of examples written for our benefit.
