No, because if that were so the other believers such as James (head of the assembly in Jerusalem and brother of "Jesus") would not have accepted him.
Quoting from Thomas Jefferson - do you realize what kind of a smear campaign he used during the 1800 presidential campaign - lies about John Adams and such? Seems to me he would hardly be the one to consider as an authority on ethics of this sort.

Nope. The Apostles were extraordinarily gifted with discernment and prophecy -- and they agreed that Paul's teaching was from God.
For example, Peter wrote at 2 Peter 3:
14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

Paul bashing is nothing new, Peter addressed the issue nearly 2000 years ago:
2 Peter 3:15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
Jesus himself called "Rabbi Saul" his chosen vessel: Acts 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
Assuming Jefferson actually said the quote you've attributed to him, it raises the question of whether he or Jesus was right. I think I'd have to go with Jesus on this one.

The angel of light thing is talking about angels appearing to people like Mohammed, pretending to be God's angels, not the Holy Spirit, who is God.
The gospel message is the only way God can get you to heaven. Mohammed won't get you there, and I don't think there is a fly's chance at the north pole that he'll be there.

Paul wasn't a deceived one of Satan, they are recognised by their attitude and beliefs about who Jesus was, denying He was Saviour and God etc. Paul was called into service by Jesus. The Anointed One of God is Jesus. There are people who have had mighty revelations from God - e.g. read Kenneth Hagin's books. But Paul was given insight into aspects of ultimate reality through revelation.

To translate that Galatians verse in modern English it would read : "and you did not show disdain or contempt because of the trial caused you by my physical condition, but rather you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus."
That he refers to himself as an angel of God or as Christ Jesus clearly shows that he is speaking by way of analogy... saying you received me as if I were an angel of God or even Jesus himself, refering to their welcome given him and not to his importance. But I guess with a little bit of twisting you can even get the bible to support past lives, which just goes to show that Paul was right when he said the letter of the law (scripture) leads to death while the Spirit gives life. In the Holy Spirit one sees that Paul didn't pervert the message of Jesus (at least not the message given us by the four canonical gospels).

I think that it is more likely that he was a Roman agent intent on normalizing the religion to assimilate it into Roman tradition, so that the followers wouldn't become too radical.
Jesus himself said in Matthew that he was sent for God's chosen people (the Jews) alone. So Saul's message off gentile inclusion actually goes against Jesus word.
See Mathew 15:24, it is very specific and according to Matthew the words of Jesus.

No, Paul was a man chosen by God to take the message of the Messiah to the Jew first and then to the Gentile.
