In God's eyes, is time spent here a test of your religious conviction, since defending one's position here is a fundamental part discussion/debate? If so, in this test, are you prepared to concede defeat at any level?

Some here may characterize the arguments made by non-believers as temptations that MUST be deflected, but for it to be a true test you must acknowledge and allow the potential for failure going in.

*Should the goal here be not simply to with withstand religious pressure, but to strengthen one's beliefs through enhancement, if presented with the opportunity?*

Note: The same case can certainly be made for ALL those here, not simply Christians, but that is irrelevent as this question is directed toward Christians.

Questioning one's faith is an essential part of becoming spiritually mature. I think it is very important to examine the views of others (respectfully) and take a closer look at why you feel the way you feel.

It has made me a stronger Christian.

Test of faith??? This is actually easier to pass than some I have had if it is!!!

If I do not know the answer, I simply state that and then study and most of the time I find it. I find nothing wrong with not being able to explain a God that created the universe, humans, animals, keeps the universe in balance, if I knew those things, then I would be on the same level as God. Not gonna happen ;)

YA does not "try" my faith at all. Sometimes the idiotic and unbiblical and historically challenged questions and answers try my patience though.

As for "conceding defeat", what defeat? Someone asks a question a bunch of us answers, a "best answer" gets picked either by the voters or the asker. Just because your answer did not get picked does not mean it was not the right one.

This forum does not permit the real give-an-take of the Yahoo Forums type format. Besides, we are all incognito, hidden behind avatars and computer security systems, so who knows just what the true motives or opinions of anyone else truly is?

There is no pressure, temptation, or threat on Yahoo Q&A.

Open and honest discussion is exactly what is needed by all. I love the humor and sarcasm on here. Too bad some people take themselves too seriously, or that all others can do is cuss us out for making a good point.

What is curious is why are there so many Atheists on R & S? I mean, if you do not believe in God, why bother with this section of Yahoo?

Wow, i'd really like to say yes. That is all a tst of faith to try and not only discuss and convert and show Jesus to everybody and the joys of christian life (it is pretty full of joy).

Still, its not like that at all. I come here to more to learn than to teach, i like reading about diferent opinions, the discussion and what people who probably don't live in the same country as me and i've never met and never will think about the subject which has been so important in my life lately (Religion & Spirituality).

About defeat, well, i don't think it can happen. Many times I fail to make my point clear to people (Its mostly this awful language you people speak in fault's) I'm kidding, I like english. And many times people have to just agree to disagree (you can call that a tie).

But most of all YA is just something i do when i really really should be working.....

I don't see it that way. To me, this is a fun way to engage in religious discussion. It is something that I love to do. I have no doubts about my religious beliefs, so I'm not worried about it "testing" my conviction. If I'm able to help other people understand certain religious truths, then that is a great extra. But I'm just here to have fun.

This is not a test of faith but more an exchange of ideas. If I can encourage others that is a bonus, but I just try to give a decent straight answer to the questions I choose to respond to.

I'm a Christian, and as one, I live as much as possible by the Golden Rule. And that means valuing the opinions, positions, and beliefs of ALL people, as long as they do nothing to attempt to force or impose their will upon others against the others' will.

As far as "defending one's position" vis-a-vis God, is concerned, He's fully capable (as Creator of the whole universe) of defending Himself, so doesn't need any help from us. So trying to "defend one's faith" (on anyone's part, regardless of his/her faith or beliefs) is pretty much both counterproductive and pointless.

Test of Faith? No.

Do I get annoyed with the time I spend defending myself against the vast amount of uneducated people? Yes.

(Note; when I sai "Uneducated people", I mean the ones who A. Judge, stereotype, and treat people that disagree with them like crap because they disagree B; ask questions like "Hey Chrstians why are you all mean cause i saw a christian and he was RUUUUUDE?)

I don't really think of it as a testof my faith but as another outlet for my faith....I am not going to get in a heated argument with a non believer because we will just go on and on trying to disprove one another....we disagree and that is okay, I just want to put my two cents in as well
