Start by asking your pediatrician for a referral to a neurologist or developmental pediatrician. There is testing they can do to determine if she falls on the autism spectrum or not. They can then recommend a course of therapies, etc. that she may need. Always trust your instincts - mothers always know best! Get second opinions if need be. I wish you the best of luck, and remember, an autism diagnosis is not a death sentence!

This must be a scary time for you, my heart goes out to you.
Please, don't let yourself get influenced by other people, YOU, being your daughters' mom, will know best if something is really wrong.
So if YOU feel something is really wrong, please go to a pediatrician, preferably one that's specialized in autism and related illnesses. (I'm sure you will be able to find them on the Internet.....just check the larger cities around you, or the one you may be in....if you can't find anything, make some phone calls to the larger hospitals, and ask if they have a ped. specialized in autism. (don't be satisfied with anything less......a good diagnoses is necessary to be able to draw a good treatment-plan.
Good luck!

You should ask her pediatrician. If (s)he isn't well versed in what to look for, the following are some behaviors that you may (or may not) notice in Autistics:
They really don't seem to want/need to play with other kids or socialize in general....might have nervous ticks (hand flapping, which is self soothing)...might have outbursts related to noises/sounds...take things very literally (which children tend to do, but Autistics do to an extreme).

There should be agencies in your area that will have him tested. My oldest son (now 10) was tested by a neuropsychologist through an agency called Central Valley Regional Center (California). We haven't had to shell out a dime and they continue to advocate for him in school as well.
