My wife and I spent the last 20 years together and I was in the Army. We both think that the time we spent apart was good for us, since it allowed us both to grow, retain some of our independence, and allow the partner to have some "own" time. When we got back together, we both had to do a little adjusting, but we made it work. We continue this today (I've been retired for 3 years). We take two vacations a year, one with each other, and one alone.

Depends on how much you care for one another. I only see my girlfriend 1-2 days out of the week due to work and the travel distance (90 minutes). What time we do get together we usually make the most of.
