So im walking in Virginia beach during memorial day along the "walk of hero's" when two "Marines" catch my attention. I see them walking along and people coming up to them and shaking there hands all telling them "thankyou for ur service" and just kept on walking all cocky. By the time they were close by a smiled and stopped them to "thank them" one was a sgt and the other a cpl. I tried to act cool but inside i was enraged and my hands started to tremble. So I ask the Sgt "hey I see you have a purple heart and you didnt recieve a combat action ribbon?" "did you go to irak or afghanistan? wheres ur sea service ribbon?" "and why the **** are ur eagle globe and anchor facing the wrong direction?" there two girls friends "girls they had just picked up" where like ...."dont hate just cause he is a marine" then I snapped. I was like ***** im a real marine and these two dumb as ses are fakes, so I wanked there ribbons and a whole fight broke out. Two cops came. Fortunately

People lie constantly about being the the military. As a vietnam veteran, I encounter it every day. I hear things like " Yes, I can tell you what I did in 'nam, but I'd have to kill you because it was classified. " What classified after 30 years? Or " i won the MOH, but the citation was classified." Ain't no suce thing as a classified award citation. Or " I turned down (insert mane of decoration here) because I was just doing my job." You are not at liberty to "turn down" awards. My personal favorite is a guy I worked with before I retired from the Civil Service. he claimed to be a Marine, and a an NCO in the national guard. But... brace yourself dude: He was a Warrent Office when he was on active duty because "the general said so". Turns out he was in the guard all right he was SP4 distribution clerk in a division hq company. No service in the Marines, either. As for the Warrent Office business you cannot hold one rank on IDT and another rank on active duty. Yes this was done at one time, up until the 1960's, but no longer. Hope this is helpful or at least entertaining.

Make sure you truly understand what you are getting into as far as the military is concerned if you are dealing with so many hardships on the homefront. I am all about joining the military but many people do not understand much about it before they are trapped in it. The last thing you want to do is join, hate it, and then have a family that has disowned you. If your foster family is so "shallow" that they would disown you over the military it sounds like you don't have such a great thing going with them and they would probably hold a bunch of other crap over your head for the rest of your life. My advice. Get your first two years of college out of the way then join. This way you will be able to apply for virtually all commissioning programs in the military if you want to or if you want to stay enlisted you will have a leg up when it comes to promotions. Plus you will be able to go in at a higher rank, at least in the Army. If your family does disown you, save money while you are in and do not blow your spending money on beer like so many others. I got out after 5 years with well in excess of $100,000 in savings and benefits and I was 23! Money goes fast on the outside if you choose to get out, you will need it! If you stay in all the better.

Rockandroll is correct--it's a federal offense to impersonate military personnel, much less for personal gain; it's even a federal offense for current or former military to wear rank, medals, awards, combat patches, or any other insignia that they did not gain or were not awarded, for any reason. Maybe some dumbass civilians think it's funny to do that, but it's serious--it's a direct insult to the uniform/rank/awards/insignia and what they all stand for. Everything on the uniform, including the uniform itself, has meaning; and to make a mockery of it directly insults not only the uniform but everyone who has ever worn it. Oh, and to those who disagree, thinking it's just clothes and shiny pins: whether or not you agree is completely irrelevant. The opinion of those who DO wear the uniform legitimately is what counts; and to them, the uniform has significant meaning.
I hope you wiped the floor with those jackasses. I was Army, not a Marine, but I don't blame you whatsoever. I hope those cops hauled those two idiots downtown and filed charges against them for illegal impersonation and anything else they could find.

How pathetic are people when they try to pass themselves off as something they are not.
I hope you got in some real good punches and hopefully didn't get in any trouble. Those idiots should go in for paintball.
It is a total disgrace to burn our flag or put on a piece of garment that you can buy in any store to try and look like you are in the Military. The worse part is putting on a purple heart.
should be a law about impersonating a Military Officer.
When you see a person in camouflage clothing look on the front of the shirt..one pocket will have the branch of service that they are serving and the other pocket will have their last name. God bless our Military people.

I have also seen people pretending that they were
in the US Military and I think that they should be
put in jail because it is a Federal Offense to impersonate and to wear any part or the whole
military uniform and to wear any medals or ribbons
without actually having served in the US Armed Forces. You should of taken down their names and reported this to the FBI or US Military Authorities!!

No, but I see your point. That would get to me, disrespecting the uniform and position to seek attention or get girls.
Next time, see if you can find out what unit they are attached to and contact their command to advise them of how they are wearing the uniform. They will be corrected. Contact the base command too, just in case their command brushes you off.

I would've been just as pissed. I am an Iraq veteran and currently in ARNG. I'm modest and don't highlight my military achievements but I would've been enraged if someone pretended to.

It's never happened to me, but I probably would have done the same thing. Either that, or I would have followed them around, sharpshooting them every chance I got.
The reason they did it? C'mon, man, the "girls they had just picked up" were the reason.
