My fiance and I are getting our engagement pictures in two weeks, and the only problem is that he won't smile for pictures! I think he's the most handsome man alive, and when he looks at me he has such a beautiful smile, but when the camera turns on him he gets this funny look on his face! He says he can't help it, but I can't seem to get him to freeze the smile he gives me for the camera. It reminds me of that old Friend's episode of Chandler and Monica when they went to get their pictures takens, and he made that silly face as soon as the camera turned on him. Any ideas on how to make this pics turn out well?

My hubby is the same way. I tickle him or make him laugh. Have one of your friends or someone behind the camera make stupid faces or silly remarks so that he is laughing and not "forcing" a smile. If all else fails, pinch him. :) good luck.

The only way you can get a smiling pic of him is to do it candidly which won't happen in a studio. I just freezes in front of a camera. I do the same thing. I've really tried to relax in front of one, but to no avail. The more of a big deal you make of it the less likely you are of getting any decent pics of him smiling. The photographer could try telling some stupid jokes to loosen him up a little, but I don't think that will work. He has to be caught candidly to get a natural smile.

Try having some pictures taken when he's looking at you, rather than at the camera. You can't do them all like this, of course, but you'll hopefully get his smile in at least a few of them.
Also, good photographers can handle this. I know a wedding photographer who keeps a huge roll of condoms hanging out of the inner pocket of his suit. When he encounters someone who isn't smiling, or who doesn't smile natural for the camera, he flashes open his suit. The person sees the condoms and laughs, making for a perfect picture.

My husband had to have all his teeth pulled when he was a teenager and now has implants. He went over a year without teeth and still doesn't smile very often. The photographer we went to for our wedding photos caught on to this pretty quickly and kept my fiance's face serious throughout most of the shoot. The pictures turned out beautifully. Trust the photographer. You can also try to make him smile yourself by joking around and by being stunning!

You should find a photographer that he is comfortable with and make the session less formal. Most of the time it's the "posing" part that makes them not smile. Talk to the photographer and get them to make it a casual, fun session that is more likely to bring a smile out of him. Good luck.

Make sure you find a photographer that knows how to work with people. For our engagement announcement photo the photographer made us laugh, so we have a nice natural smile in our photos.

Ha ha, I know what you are going thru. My husband is the SAME WAY. I found that with him, if I know that we are going to have a pic together, I'll tell the person taking the picture to say something funny like ya know...booger or something... because its totally random. works everytime. I've also found that tickeling him in the side or something works too. I dont know if it will work for your fiance... but you can give it a shot. good luck.

It may sound odd, but have him practice with you in front of a mirror. Also, doing some digital shots just at home. Both or either will let him see that he has a better look when he smiles.
