Just thought I'd start another argument, I'm a marxist all religion should be banned, as its corrupt and full of biggots.
Everyone should work for the common good.
Not follow fake icons.
Religion causes wars, protects perverts(another dig) provides a basis for discrimination and is based on fairy stories.

Anyway as I expected, caused an argument, exactly as I said, where you find religion you find conflict...ha ha.
Oh and report me go on, I'm adult enough to not give a toss. This is just a group not life and death!

Check your history books, Karl Marx was NOT a communist, Vladimir Lenin took some of his ideas from Karl Marx and the rest he made himself.
Karl Marx was born in Prussia May 5th 1818 Died March 14th 1883 and was a Prussian philosopher, political economist and revolutionary and wrote the Communist manifesto in 1848 quote" The hithero existing society is the history of class struggles" Marx was against capitalism. He was against the bourgeoisie.
Lenin and his fellow bolshevichs came to power in 1918 during the Russian revolution when the bourgeoisie was overthrown and religion banned.

I'm with you on this one, though I don't think i'd call myself a marxist. I'm an atheist, but i believe religion does more harm than good. It perpetuates the belief in fairy tale creators and mythical saviors who will one day return from the dead to bring us all to our own personal happy places in the sky.
people kill for their religious beliefs, they discriminate and punish judge those who are not of the same belief systems as they are. It's a terribly ridiculous superstitious way of life and in this modern day where the mysteries of the old world are not so mysterious anymore.... primitive religions SHOULD be a thing of the past.

Ahh, it's so refreshing when someone posts a question/statement just to start an argument - there's not much of that on here. Lol!
I agree with you that religion causes or at least support wars, they contradict themselves in their beliefs, they encourage discrimination, and they harbour and seem to breed perverts and deviants. There is one exception to this rule however, only one religion in the world that does as you put it 'work for the common good' because they base their beliefs on the bible and not on their own opinions. They take no part in any wars or segregation/discrimination and different races gladly mix together as friends. Their teachings are a way of life rather than just a sunday day out, and encourages happier family lives. They are also (bizarrely) persecuted relentlessly, skitted and reviled, yet don't particularly mind because this treatment was foretold in the bible prophecies. Religion will soon come to an end, but the true religion will be left standing for all to see. Guess you'll just have to 'watch this space' lol!

Are you really a marxist? I'm not religeous, but I realise that marxism, although fine on paper, will never work in real life, simply because we are not all equal! Some of us are stronger than others, some are more inteligent etc. I believe in survival of the fittest, as it is in nature, and there for the only true economy would be an anarchic free market economy. That way every one would be working for the common good, as every bodies needs are the same, (ie food, water, shelter) and without the power that governments weild there will be far less corruption.

Hmm, some would ban religion... some would ban Marxism. Neither would be right.
As for survival of the fittest and a free market economy being for the common good, well, no. The benefits of society that you enjoy today came from cooperation - working, and sharing, for mutual benefit.
Back to religion...Well banning things because you disagree with them is often a symptom of corruption and bigotry. Quite a few rather nasty dictatorships have gone in for that sort of thing. Is that what you espouse?
I disagree with religious belief, but I hope to persuade people that they are mistaken. Banning them will not stop them believing.
Banning a belief is neither desirable nor practical. Banning the malign consequences of a belief might sometimes be necessary.
Hopefully, perhaps..I have persuaded you?

I completely agree - what good comes out of religion. It seems to be the basis and reasoning behind wars not only in the past but in todays enlightened(?ha?) days!!
i dont understand how so many people can believe stories such as the bible which were clearly made up by a bunch of guys in the middle ages to control the population (read 1984 by George Orwell and you will see so many links to the use of propeganda and population control which is so similar to the bible!!)
what i dont understand is that religious people asy that they love all gods dreature - what all gods creatures that believe with you, somehow that doesnt seem to work!
science has proven so many religious phenomena were made up
to be honest and i will probably be lynched for this if the older religions (chritianity, islam etc) were introduced today we would be calling them cults such as we do with scientology these days.....whats the difference they were all made up in the first place!!

Please list for me the Marxist or atheist groups that do the same work as the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and thousands of other Christian charities that saves lives on a daily basis.
Please explain to me how the Crusades (religious wars) in what is considered to be the worst such century in history (the 11th century with the fall of Jerusalem in July of 1095) only managed to cause about 900,000 deaths. While the Marxist based nations of China, USSR, North Korea, North Vietnam and Cuba all managed to kill over 180 million in a 70 year period in the last century?
Please explain to me how a country in which religion was forbidden for over 70 years, with at least two generations growing up with no knowledge of God, but a constant pressure against belief in him, would within 4 years of the governments collapse have over 70% of its population become theist, if there is no inner desire within man to know a God who is really out there.
Answer those, and then maybe you will have an argument to begin debating your ideas.

Spirituality will always be a part of the human condition. Like abortion, you can't ban something that's part of primate nature. Religion is different than spirituality in that it promotes a 'Truth', while spirituality constantly seeks. Many religions are actually social movements based on an earlier spirituality but now discourage the faithful from exploring it on their own, encourages social conformity and promotes an agenda based upon it's ideals. You can ban the religion, but people will still believe in the paranormal, unseen beings, and try to hone their ability to interact with and perceive forces above and beyond their own reality. That's a part of primate nature. Have you ever seen that episode of 'South Park' where one of the little boys got a dog who turned out to be a gay dog? He kept saying to the dog,'don't be gay, Spot, don't be gay', but the dog could not deny his own nature.

I agree and I have an Idea though it would take up a lot of sacrifices it should be done for the common good. My plan is to unite all religions into one just one faith with a common caus and a common goal.
I think that if this is to be made the world will be a better place, thorugh sacrifice, through justice and through peace...

You being a Marxist is somewhat anachronistic when it has been proved to be unworkable given human nature !
Time you moved on into the modern world.
However I agree with you on religion, the 3 big ones Christianity, Judeaism and Islam are all from a different time and are not applicable today, in fact they are one of the most divisive forces affecting peace in the world. The fundamentalists from all of them make me sick.

Well, there are pros and cons to religion.
Pro:
Establishes morals that are tied into the foundation of society. "Thou shall not kill" "steal", etc.
Cons:
Religion creates a dividing line. I personally feel that if you want to unite man, you have to tear down the walls that divide us. The two biggest divisions are race and religion. In the case of big religion, we are preached our differences. My favorite example of this is found in the words of Farrakhan himself. The man preaches to hate Jews. Wasn't Jesus a Jew? Is he not in the Quran? I always thought the Quran said to love Jesus because he was Mohammed's predacessor.
Now just to pause for a second, I went to a Jesuit college. I had to take religion classes there. We were taught that "god is love". If thats the case, why does a man who is suppossed to give the word of his god, preach hate?
Now, if you look at Christianity, they are not void of epic sins. Three Crusades, and an Inquisistion alone should prove that. All fought because a pope in Rome wanted control of Jeruselem, and people, not Jesus, went on aimless witchtrials. Many native Americans were killed because they had refused to convert their faith. Christians often think Muslims are the only ones who force their religion on others, but in retrospect, the Christians have been at it much longer.
