Why anti-religion?
There is much less anti-religion than their is anti-Christianity. The Christians over the past 20+ years have been attempting to enforce their beliefs through government and finally people are getting tried of the attempts. Those who fight the hardest are those with opposite beliefs. Christians who cannot understand how others cannot accept Christ are unwilling to intellectually and honestly examine the world and aren't willing to admit that those who don't accept Christ can be just as compassionate and loving as any Christian.
As far as ANTI-RELIGION.... Religion is dying because it is constantly being exposed as false, corrupt, dishonest, etc.. be it evolution/creation or countless other arguments. More importantly society as a whole is increasingly surpassing the morals taught by religions. Best possible example is New Testament vs Old Testament which gives a stark view of moral advancement in which religion advanced with the common thoughts of the time which allowed progression.
Religion is best which controls not at all and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of religion which they will have.

I agree that xians have an absolute right and it should be defended. But, when the beliefs and policys of any religion seep in to the policys that effect my life, then its out of control and should be put in check. A couple example of policy effecting my life,
I vote for a candidate base on how much i think he will do in regards to, the economy, infrastructure, and the ability to see the problems of the people.
I feel that the current administartion is in place because people voted based on a candiates views on , Gay rights, abortion, and religion. All are personal private matters that , in a so called free country, should'nt have any thing to do with politics. And the fact of the matter is that this adminitration has not, as i far as i can see, has doen anything regarding these matters. Running a country is a businees not a moral and ethical crusade. The soviets crumbled due to finacial struggles due to overstretching militray and finacial recources. Religion had 0% to do with it. History has shown that religion and govt never mix well.

This is a very interesting question because I've been wondering the same thing myself lately. I can understand people not believing in God and in Jesus, but I can't understand why those same people get offended when someone declares themselves as a Christian. It's as though their quest to deny religion has become a religion in and of itself. A belief structure firmly based in cynicism and skepticism which feels threatened by someone of Christian faith. (Have you noticed that the other religions remain for the most part unscathed?)
I don't believe that there is any one answer to that question. I think the only thing that can be done is to pray and always show compassion and love to your fellow man (which can be really hard at times...lol). I think we have to follow the example that Jesus gave us. He never preached blame and hatred of humanity. He came to preach the gospel of the Kingdom of God, a Kingdom of Love. If we can focus on changing ourselves, stop pointing fingers or casting judgment; than we could spend more time spreading the message that Jesus proclaimed throughout the gospels, a message of love and compassion, a message of peace.

AH!! YES! I LOVE IT.
Know what else is a right? Free speech!
know I will exercise this right in my upcoming monster paragraph.
With religion comes manipulation, lies and corruption. Look at the church. Lies everywhere, coverups, basically just as bad as the US government. Such great things like the Inquisition, making Galileo say he was wrong about the earth not being the center of the universe (which the church didn't actually admit they were wrong about until 1993 mind you, shows their stubborness eh?) and Crusades. Religion is an organized way to control the masses, and that's just what the leaders usually do.
Religion can be a very evil tool when used in the wrong way. The terrorists that flew planes into buildings were doing it for their religious beliefs. Crusades were started because of religious beliefs. Mass suicides, abortion clinic bombings, and on and on and on, all because of their own religious beliefs.
My main problem is the lack of free thought. Certain religions keep you so confined within their boundaries, there's no room for intellectual growth. With all the discoveries that have come in the past two thousand years, anything that countered what was said as fact by religion has been/is called blasphemous, and completely false, whilst it is actually fact (and we can go back to Galileo on this one). They don't want you to think, they want to keep you controlled and doing what they want with the promise of eternal happiness.

You set a pretty high bar to cross. Yes, there aven't been any recent inquisitions. But the movement of conservative Christians to gain political power in the U.S. has had horrible consequences. I want to stop that movement before they decide to launch inquisitions.
I don't want to ban religion. I just want to restore a solid wall between church and state, and I hope that Christian's will become less corrupt.

Couldn't agree more. However, I believe that people are becoming anti-religion due to some Xians pushing their religion on others. And the fact that we are supposed to be seperating Church from Government and State and there are people out there trying to bring it back into the schools. Christians have every right to pray in school but my pagan child shouldnt be made to have to. People are still being close minded and judgemental. People will believe what they want to believe and as long as that makes them happy and they aren't hurting you in any way leave them the hell alone.

Could it be because religion ruins the lives of the people that don't believe in it because the followers think they have the right to make everything in the world run the way their religion wants it to?

First of all, there are more religions then Christianity.
Most people dig at Christianity because a lot of Christians are self righteous, judgmental, hypocrites. Catholics aren't the only one with scandal rocking its foundations. Christians choose to cling to things that are no longer valid in an attempt to scream their beliefs from the roof tops instead of accepting that the gospels are stories, guides. The word of your God lives in YOU, not a book.
Woman are leaving because Christianity demands obedience. Sorry but I am not man's lapdog. It would bore my husband to death in a week.
Christians invade our privacy by "witness" at our doorsteps, attempt to shove their beliefs down my children's throat at school, make their laws into the countries law and insist beyond a shadow of a doubt that they had the idea first.
I wouldn't mind them if they just respect us. If they lived by their creeds. But a lot of them don't. And alot of US are tired of it.

".... doesn't anyone learn from history?"
Sure.
Have a look at hundreds of wars in the name of Jesus Christ.
Have a look at the Spanish Inquisition.
Have a look at our sappy president.
Listen to the hatred in a speech from a member of the Christian Coalition.
Now you know why so many people are fed up to the back teeth with self-styled Jesus substitutes.

Let's take a look at what the recent Religious Right domination in our nation's politics has accomplished, shall we?
Renewed efforts by Creationists to force superstition into science.
Wars in two countries, one of which had nothing to do with our reasons for going to war.
Deliberate distorting of scientific fact in favor of doctrine.
Deliberate ignoring of scientific fact in favor of political expediency.
Stem cell research is being opposed because of religious, not scientific, reasons.
"Faith based initiatives" that heavily favor the Religious Right.
For a slightly longer view:
Efforts made to shut out non-Christian religions from the perks Christians enjoy.
Efforts to rewrite our legal system with "God's laws". (see Pat Robertson's "law school" and their mission statement)
The fact that atheists and agnostics are not allowed to run for public office or testify in court in Arkansas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas.
Atheist boys cannot be members of the Boy Scouts, though the Scouts recieve public funding.
Politicians pander to the Religious Right evangelicals for their votes by trying to pass religiously-based laws.
In some states it is illeagal to buy a car or alcohol on Sundays.
The words "under God" in the Pledge of Alligence were added in 1954 by the Knights of Columbus...a Catholic organization.
