I get the feeling you can have both 'just dreams' and premonitions. If its both, how can you tell the difference between the two?

I know what you mean. I have had both kinds of dreams you mention and other types as well. Premonition dreams are hard to tell. I guess it takes experience. Sometimes I just really feel strongly about a dream.

About a year before my sister died, I dreamed I went to her funeral.

Actually, she was in wonderful health, very active, ate well, and planned to live to be 100. I on the other hand am not well. I have more wrong with me than I can name.

Then my sister got pancreatic cancer and died within 6 months of discovering it. She never gave up. She tried everything to fight the disease, but nothing worked.

I think this was a premonition dream. I did not tell my sister about the dream because it would have scared her.

Another example was what I call a message dream. I get them from time to time. This one said "John knows Chris's last name". I wrote it down in my dream journal, but couldn't figure it out.

Much later, I was at a workshop and they put us in pairs. I was paired with someone I didn't know. Her name was Johna. I looked at her and asked, "Who is Chris?" She said it was her only daughter who was very sick. We prayed for her. I told her about my dream.

When I went home, (and I promise that this is true) I looked in my dream journal to find the dream. I had this dream during a nap at the same time and exactly one year from the date of the workshop. Chills went down my spine.

I still don't quite understand the meaning of this message dream. Maybe it was a way to get us to pray toghther for her daughter. Maybe the dream message was for her and she figured it out later. I'm not sure, but I know that was no coincidence.

I hope this helps!

When they are "premonitions" they are usually more powerful. That does not mean they are a night mare but rather they are real.

I know a man who will tell every dream as if it a warning. Sometime it may be spicy food before bed time. So we need to be careful of how we tell them. God will talk to us in dreams sometimes but not everything is Thuss saith the Lord.

On several occasions I have had dreams where everything happened exactly the same way the next day.

God will often reveal things to people in dreams or rather give warning of things that will happen.

The Bible also tells us to tell a dream as a dream. Because most of the time we are just dreaming.

If you have a dream that you feel is a sign of things to come treat it that way. Remember it is still a dream.

I don't know if I have helped you any.

Let's say that it's not possible to know the future for sure so dreams are not premonitions. However people have the ability to predict the possible future by looking at the past and observing subtle clues around us. While dreaming our brains shut down all of the logical centers such as scheduling, thinking about your responsibilities and skill sets and lets the creative part flow. So, your mind goes over all the subtle clues you missed and might give you possible future outcomes. If one of them pans out you think you are clairavoyant. There are different kinds of dreams, fear based dreams, wish fulfilment dreams, enlightenment dreams, possibility dreams, enjoyable dreams. Are there any others that anyone else can think of?

As one granted the interpretation of dreams from God, I can attest that some dreams are meant to be premonitions, some are meant to be messages from God and some are just dreams.

You try watching your best friend die in a fire, including the scent of the smoke, the feel of the heat, the spray of the fire hoses from the fire truck, and hearing the sound of her and her mother screaming, then lets see you wake up to find out that it actually happened exactly as you dreamed it AND that you woke up right at the minute the doctor declared her dead, not only that, but you watched him declare her dead in your dream.

Trust me, it will change your mind on whether they're just dreams or not.

I know that some of them are real. I wish I didn't have them.

Premonitions are dreams that one remembers, which relate to events that actually occur later on.

If they come true, they're premonitions, if not, just dreams. I know, that doesn't help until afterwards, but that's how it works.

As you state, mostly dreams are just dreams.

At times they are more -- rarely -- those times the dream stays with you when you wake. Still, it is better to remember it and not to pay it too much mind.

God does give us hints about the future in this manner on occasion -- I have had my share of it.
