I have had insomnia ever since I can remember. Both the type of having trouble falling asleep and that of staying asleep. I never feel like going to bed. It's 6am here and I'm not really that tired. I have always heard you shouldn't stay in bed if you aren't falling asleep, but what if this keeps me up all night. It has before. I was taking meds for it but I ran out and I was afraid I was starting to get addicted. Any help out there?

I have tried tea, melatonin, other supplements. Reading gets me thinking more, even boring things.

The herbal type. Try a herbal sleeping aide. Find ways that relax you. Need to find the route of your insomnia. Are you on some medication that could cause it. Try these things. Find some way to relax your mind. maybe read the bible too. Not to make you sleep but help ease your mind so that you can sleep. try some relaxing exercise. Well in my case I used to be identified a extreme manic depressant which contributed to insomnia and dependancy. I eventually requested for aid and used to be prescribed Zoloft and Trazadone. The longest I ever stayed up with out medicines or alcohol used to be 12 days directly. If your some thing like me take prescribed medicines however I am a lovely extreme case.

I take the natural supplement Melatonin. Its something our body normally produces to induce sleep.U can buy it in health food stores. Take the smallest dose at first then see how it effects you. For me it just relaxes me fairly quickly and i can fall asleep fast. Its non habit forming.
You dont mentino if youre a man or women. Women often have trouble sleeping during their cycles and in pregnancy.
This is the typical suggestions:

Cut out all caffeine at least 5-7 hours before bed. That includes chocolate and teas. (u can buy decaf teas)

Exercise regularly in the am to burn energy and get your body to associate morning with energy.

Keep windows open, lights on during the day and about 2 hours before bedtime turn lights down, light candles, no tv, stuff that calms you. If a bath calms you take it, if it doesnt save it for the morning.

No tv in the bedroom. falling asleep to the tv is bad yet many of us do it! (me included sometimes!)
Trying reading something boring before bed that often gets me drowsy right away!

Best of luck!

Start a physical training program, like run 5 miles a day. Your body will have no trouble sleeping
