I for one cannot fathom how often you are corrected (with scientific links no less) when you come up with your creationists mythology.
You have to admit, it might be fun for you to be right ONCE in your lives, so why not try actual, verifiable science?
Now don't get me wrong, Science never gives the answers. It only answers questions with more questions. And that's kind of scary. It makes you think for yourself, something very few of you have ever attempted.
But, just like riding a bicycle, the more you practice, the better you get. And before you know it, you're thinking on your own with NO need for your mythological training wheels.

Mellivor,
Scientists don't look to creationism because most of us live in the REAL world.
Digging up bones and tombs is archaeology. Sure the bible has some facts in it, most books of fiction do, that's what makes them believable.
However, just because a novel set in WWII has Hitler surviving and rising to power again, does not mean it happened.
Understand now?

You're not asking them to grow up are you?

Don't count on it.

Magical thinking is a lot easier than logic, for one thing. For another, their religion is very specific about what to think when dogma and reality conflict: Have faith in the dogma. To the death. Because anything that is not part of their interpetation of the Bible is by definition wrong at best, outright evil at worst.

Ignorance is held up as an ideal. Fear of the different is somehow a virtue. Provincialism is loyalty. Learning anything other than the Bible is skirting the edge of satanic. That's a very hard mindset to break out of because it has built-in rationalizations against reason.

To cap it all off, Creationists are convinced that any effort to point out how wrong they are is percieved as "persecution of the just": The harder you work to educate them, the more they will resist...declaring martyrdom when they run out of excuses.

It's a matter of faith not fact. You're right, it is like training wheels. But not in that way. We get rid of our spiritual training wheels, soon we are riding without doubt in God. You say in your question "You have to admit, it might be fun for you to be right ONCE in your lives, so why not try actual, verifiable science?" But then you contradict yourself with "Science never gives the answers. It only answers questions with more questions". So which one is it? You say we don't think for ourselves. How do you think we got to this point? Are you afraid of having to give up the life you know? Are afraid of looking like a conformist? You don't have to be. When you give your life up to Christ, you experience a freedom you've never experienced before, and you won't until you except the fact that " Science never gives the answers. It only answers questions with more questions". I think for myself, how else do you think I would be able to defend my faith when people question it? As for science, I have nothing against it. I'm going to be a doctor, it's obviously a very large part of my life. But your right, it doesn't give us all the answers. It just gives us glimpse into the beauty of God's creation. I will be praying for you.
God Bless!

Well, why don't you try Christ....Just because one person doesn't believe what you believe doesn't neccasarily mean you are completely right and they are completely wrong...you can reject God all you want as you will be the one that suffers the consequence and for that I am sorry, but here I am shoving what I believe on you...I won't answer a question with a question as I believe in creation simply because I have faith..you can call me an idiot or small minded but I am cool with that because I have faith and that is enough for me..and in my case I have taken and studied a lot of science and it still has not swayed my faith...but there is something bigger than that I have seen and felt the evidence of things unseen and that is more than enough to make me believe..maybe when you have a real experience with God you won't question Him...I am alive today because of an experience with God and that is good enough for me

I love science, but am not satisfied that there were any links BETWEEN species. So the origin of Man thing does not satisfy me. I do however make regular visits to Stephen Hawking's site to see how the origin of Life is coming along.

I also have a passion for quantum physics, Plate tectonics and biology.

Your method of influencing people leaves much to be desired.

tired of being so very wrong .. fun for you to be right ONCE in your lives .. think for yourself, something very few of you have ever attempted .. NO need for your mythological training wheels

Gosh you sound just like someone I'd listen to ... not.

Before trying to change people, why not wipe the sneer off your face and the insults out of your words?

Is this a question, or a long winded insult? Why don't you try rewording your question so that it at least sounds like you want an answer? One last thing, if you think we are so stupid then why do you bother to ask us questions at all?

I have a lot of respect for science. BUT...all the science in the world will never, ever trump my personal experience with God. Science cannot explain it or discount it. Therefore, I'm sticking with God. I have all the proof I will ever need of His existence.

I see a major difference between testable, observable science and the mere assumptions, speculation and inference, which 'proves' evolution.

What is mythology? So-called modern 'science' has merely retold the fairy tale of the frog which has turned into a prince.

It is very difficult for a person to give up on their only chance at eternal life. That is what believing in evolution requires for most bible believing Christians.

I feel sorry for most of them, because they are so firmly entrenched in their belief systems that they are scared to death of loosing faith.

Mythological training wheels...that was a creative touch. All this pro-evolution rhetoric would be well and good if it wasn't accompanied by this overwhelming belittlement of anyone who dare disagree with you. I've had plenty of practice in thinking for myself. Every organic chemistry class I've taken has required plenty of thinking. I think evolution is likely, but the way you revere this one theory and degrade anyone who doesn't agree with you does not reflect well. This statement would resonate far more if you didn't present yourself as such a smug, self-satisfied fool.
