Planning to go to Cairns but must I travel all the way up to see the Great Barrier Reef? Can I stop anywhere along the way from Brisbane (or near Brisbane) to view similar reefs? Is a daytrip out to the reefs enough to experience the wonders? And lastly, what are the other things to see/do in Cairns? Thanks!

I see someone has already given you some great suggestions of things to see. There's also great shopping in town. If you're looking for places to eat, Jardine's at the Cairn's Colonial Club Resort is really good. It's a great hotel to stay at too. I would also highly recommend going to the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park.

i could e book your trip in Cairns to the large barrier reef, quite some places on the Esplanade to make your booking, you circulate away at 8 am, you're taking all your kit with you as there are places to alter as quickly as you get there, its a very hello trip and you have a large type of time to scuba dive and relax, have a staggering time, Cairns is a remarkable place as is Australia.
